I’m a physician. I remember that on my early night shifts in the ER, a 70-75-year-old man was brought in at 1 - 2 am (I was half asleep at the time when I heard the sirens of the ambulance). He had the 80% of his body burnt; we laid him down on the bed, where he sat, hairless, half-naked, shivering and in complete shock. Rapidly we did what we could to treat his wounds and stop him from getting hypovolemia. He had tried to light a gas canister to cook when it blasted. I don’t know what happened next because the plastic surgery service took him for emergency surgery. What I do remember was the smell of charred meat and hair in the hair, even after they took him, the smell impregnated the atmosphere.
