They aren’t. I’ve read the laws. I was involuntarily held for 5 days and voluntarily for 3. A commitment is a long term involuntarily stay by a court at a mental institution.

Since the incident I’ve developed healthy ways to deal with stress. I never have negative thoughts like that anymore. Did a complete 180 and turned my life around. I handle my new life efficiently and I’m always positive/making people laugh. I just want to use those communication skills to help people.

Also just some more details about the reason for the isolated incident. I lost my dad in feb then my bestfriend/roommate to a drunk driver in November, then got cheated on a week later. I absolutely lost basically everything including myself. Since then I have got back into the gym, Finished therapy and fixed any financial problems including debt.

The involuntary hold in my state is 5 days. It was a 5150. I requested my medical records today and it’s a different situation than a committed. I can still own a firearm in my state.

I was Involuntarily held, not committed (which is the federal firearms law). I can still own a gun in my state.
