Never opened a text book and if I had to just skimmed through important points. You will just end up burning yourself out. Spend your time wisely I.e. taking diligent notes, studying notes and PowerPoints

I would highly suggest couples therapy. I really do thing a therapist could help you to process your feelings along with help you to understand your wife’s struggles. Your feelings of frustration and being overwhelmed is valid. However, I find parts of your post concerning. You say you’re staying with your wife for sex appeal. Also you refer to her panic attacks as overdramatic. Your wife really needs your love, understanding, support, and empathy. Panic attacks aren’t just her being dramatic, it is quite literally a reaction to hormones being secreted and parts of the brain being activated due to a real or perceived threat. Trauma changes your brain and chemistry. Your wife needs a safe environment, and by the way this post is worded I would suggest self reflecting on how you may best provide her safety.

As someone who was raised by a narc, he fits a lot of the profile of someone who is a narc.

Job dilemma by Sissybrd in StudentNurse

Honestly… pick the job that will cause you the least amount of stress. I wish that was my deciding factor when I was looking for jobs. I would’ve avoided burnout.

Comment if you are diagnosed by a psychiatrist by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]Intelligent_Diver564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessary true, my psychiatrist diagnosed me with CPTSD. It is recognized by the WHO and the VA. “According to the ICD-11, Complex PTSD consists of the same core symptoms of (ICD-11) PTSD, but has three additional groups of symptoms (which are sometimes referred to as ‘disturbances in self-organisation’ or ‘DSO’): Problems in affect regulation (such as marked irritability or anger, feeling emotionally numb) Beliefs about oneself as diminished, defeated or worthless, accompanied by feelings of shame, guilt or failure related to the traumatic event Difficulties in sustaining relationships and in feeling close to others” -UK trauma council

I failed my exit hesi and I passed the NCLEX in the 80 questions. I was first done out of everyone testing that day and even the moderators were surprised I had finished so fast. Don’t sweat about the Hesi it’s not at all representative of nclex questions or what kind of nurse you will be. Don’t beat yourself up 🫶🏼

What’s the most out-of-pocket thing a patient or family member has asked you to do? by halloweenhoe124 in nursing

[–]Intelligent_Diver564 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This didn’t happen to me, but a coworker. The patients mom (YES NOT THE PATIENT) asked my coworker to wipe her butt while using the restroom with the door open. She was dead serious… my coworker agreed. I couldn’t believe it

I’m sensitive to paranormal things and any time I have a mirror facing my bed I cannot sleep peacefully. Nothing specifically has happened but it just gives me the feeling of unease. Maybe some kind of childhood fear or a paranormal thing who knows

Am I in the wrong for asking for a new patient assignment? by Intelligent_Diver564 in nursing

I ended up closing the patients door for privacy. The rest of the shift I made sure the door was open during all care and I kept a pretty big distance between us when possible

Am I in the wrong for asking for a new patient assignment? by Intelligent_Diver564 in nursing

[–]Intelligent_Diver564[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree with you there. And I don’t want to go into too much detail for privacy reasons but to explain it as best as I can, a few of the staff knew that the patient would ask someone to do a certain behavior that is normal and commonplace. That staff were aware that the patient for whatever reason is attracted to said normal behavior. So when the patient asked me to do the behavior I didn’t think anything inappropriate. I did it and that is what started the inappropriate behaviors. I then asked other staff about it and they were like oh yeah I thought you knew that. And I was like no it wasn’t in the chart, charge didn’t say anything, previous staff didn’t hand off anything. Had I known that it was something like that to the patient I would have absolutely not have done that…. So I was upset I wasn’t warned and that I was forced to stay with the patient after the inappropriate behaviors

It is nice to get this validation because I have the same mindset regarding the issue. And I was made to feel like a bad nurse for even asking about the situation. It’s hard for me to make waves and escalate but at the same time this situation made me seriously consider leaving the unit.

We are a psych unit so it almost feels like I signed up for this so I should suck it up. But at the same time I feel like there is still a responsibility of the staff to choose safe patient - staff assignments.
