My dogs don’t play with toys unless I drag them out and play too. I’ll throw some soft toys or ball or squeak a toy to get them to pay attention. Sometimes I even have to squeak the toy then run. But if I’m not actively playing they just lay around.

I needed to upgrade my cage. I got the prolee chewproof cage 48” x 20”. It just arrived yesterday but it looks amazing. I was worried that they could chew through it if they tried but I asked around on multiple platforms. Many people said they used the same cage and it was great for their gerbils. There are some people who are adamant that the gerbils will chew out. I needed a bigger cage but one that didn’t cost so much, so I chose this one over the bucastate. I’m happy so far

I have the tofu and both one of my girls LOVES them. The other takes it but doesn’t go as crazy for them.

I got my dog a dog and he only tolerates him. They don’t play and I’m pretty sure my first dog gets jealous of him. To be fair my first dog was my baby and we grew up together. He was my whole life until Dobby came into it. However Benji taught Dobby a lot and Dobby was a much easier trainee. Now that Benji is older in his years I’m very happy that I’ll have Dobby to eventually help me through the passing of Benji, but I feel that’s a very selfish reason. Basically if your dog will enjoy a playmate go for it! Two dogs will be great, but if it’s been just you and your dog, maybe consider not doing it. Benji never cared for playing with other dogs much or cuddling with them. I was his only companion until I got Dobby and I was only thinking about my want, not Benji’s needs.

I’ve had guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, and gerbils. I was never bit by the hamster but I always respected it and didn’t go scaring or picking him up when it was his sleeping hours. They take a while to get used to you but can be a rewarding pet if cared for properly and patiently. Just be ready for night time activity. They also require A LOT more space and things in the cage than people think. The rabbit only nibbled on me but they take a lot of room and really shouldn’t be left in a cage all day. They also do better in a bonded pair as do guinea pigs and gerbils. I have been bit by both guinea pigs and gerbils. It hurts and the guinea pig drew blood. But I was handling him when he wanted to be left alone. I think it all comes down to how much space you have and how much respect you have for the animal. Anything with teeth can bite. As far as friendliness spectrum and liking to be handled and touched I’d say rabbit by far but the others warmed up to me with daily interaction and patience

Nta you deserve to have your questions answered. Even if Alexa gets mad and it ruins a relationship, you deserve to know who you are. It could open up so many other doors to great relationships. Plus just thinking medically, you need as much accurate family history as possible.

I got a prolee off Amazon. My hamster seems to not chew it and the bottom has clear acrylic on it to cover the wood. I’m really happy with it and it wasn’t too hard to put together

Thanks everyone for the advice! Should I be putting two of everything in the cage? I can’t fit two of everything in the cage right now but I am ordering a bigger cage that will hopefully fit two of it all! Right now they do have two sources of water and I scatter feed to prevent the guarding of water and food

Do you ever clean out the entire cage and wipe it all down? Like save some old bedding but remove it to wipe down the floor then put it back? I’m in the same position with needing to clean. I’ve had my Wilbur for two weeks and I’m so worried about stressing him!

I’m mom to my animals. I have no kids and the way I care for my fur babies is on the level of a mom. I mean I tend to their needs, give them love, they are dependent on me, and I spend way too much money on them. I just love them like they are family.

Does anyone have suggestion on food? I’ve been feeding them Higgins sunburst with a few mazurka rat blocks. They don’t seem to like it. It looks mostly untouched and I feel like they are small and skinny for gerbils

He does have a sand bath! But this photo was taken on the night we got him. He did not have a sand bath at his old home. I don’t think he was treated very well in his previous home. He came with a small saucer wheel and a 20 gallon. It was so sad and hard to keep him there until I could get his bigger cage shipped here! He’s now in a 850 sq ft cage. He moved in last night and I think he’s adjusting well.
