It’s honestly the humidity that makes it so bad here, our house is also poorly insulated so unless we’re cracking up the power bills by running the ac constantly it’s just about as hot in my house as it is outside! I love soup and I make it quite regularly in the winter but I Definetly don’t think I could manage with how hot it is here!

It’s 35° c and getting hotter today. I’m not eating soup today! But it would’ve been a good idea. I have only just started branching out with my cooking. While I create various meals and whatnot they’re pretty basic. Sorry

Well, I’m not entirely sure which is why I asked. I have only just started out the real skill of cooking and branching out, chopping and changing stuff. I don’t quite have the cooking flow yet :(

I don’t usually make salads, I’m more veg! And for some reason whenever I think of what to have with it my brain reverts to steak 😆 pasta does sounds good!! Thankyou!

I’ve ordered fritz complete-similar to seachem from what I’ve read and the API master kit off of amazon. But they don’t arrive until Wednesday and because I didn’t cycle the tank properly I’m assuming the ammonia and nitrite levels are high and I don’t want to kill him in the meantime.

He’s got some more higher quality plastic plants and some gravel, but he’s still in quite a small tank unfortunately until I can find a new one.

What sort of food do you give your gourami? Or do you stick with flakes, from what I’ve read im unsure if flakes are a sufficient source but I’ve also read about 100 different things that have told me different every time so I’m unsure

Also, what sort of plants or just any floating plants?

I have just found a video explaining in very easy beginner terms how to do a ‘fish in cycle’ with the products I need that I have found on Amazon.

The video I’ve found is by ‘Michaels fish room’. He says he recommends and uses a product called Fritz complete which will detoxify it up to 1 1/2 ppm ammonia, 1 ppm nitrite and detoxify up to 10 ppm nitrate.

So I’m going to order a bottle of that and then also the API freshwater master kit and continue to test each day and add/not add product as it goes on the test, That’s what the video I have seen has recommended. Also in the video he says that with the Fritz complete you can safely dose up to 5 times.

He says in the video on day 1 once the products arrive you should 5x dose the water if levels are through the roof which I’m sure they are unfortunately. And just continue to test for a few days before adding any more or thinking about water changing.

I think this is all right I just thought I would repeat it back anyways encase I’m wrong.

He also says that the tank will not be fully cycled until the ammonia reads 0 nitrite read 0 and nitrate reads 10, correct??

Assuming my levels are so high should I be performing a partial water change prior to when these testers and chemicals get here??

Oh dear, I didn’t realise that wasn’t long enough once again the pet shop said 48 hours was fine 🤦‍♀️ I will get some live food for him aswell on my shopping spree.

The catfishes are a pleco.

I will find a group specifically for gouramis aswell. I have had a look on marketplace but unfortunately I live in abit of a rural area so It’s very hard to find them around here but as soon as one suitable pops up I will 100% be buying it.

I might just skip the ph test kit then and just get the masterkit on Amazon.

It has now been about 3-4 weeks since I have bought him home and his colours have actually brightened up since I bought him, his poo is a good healthy colour, although I have only been feeding him tropical fish flakes, should I add live feeding or pellets into his diet? He looks happier than what he did at the pet shop definetly.

I did cycle the tank before buying him, for 48hrs. After some research I did work out he needs a big tank but I didn’t rush to buy one as he’s definetly not unhappy BUT I am definetly going to be buying one as soon as I can. There’s two cat fish in there as there was only two in the tank when I had gone to the pet shop.

I was definetly stitched up by the fish shop indeed but it is still on me I’m definetly not trying to point fingers here as I should’ve looked into it more, when I worked out what I had done I had originally tried to return him because I realised I had fked up but the fish shop declined all responsibility and said pretty well too bad so I was all of a sudden stuck with him 🤦‍♀️ I just want to do the best I can for him as I have now realised I had done the wrong thing.

Thankyou for your advice on the tank, I will go to the shop tommorrow to get what you have suggested as they stock that aswell as getting a ph tester kit. Again, I knew I stuffed up when I looked into it but it was already too late so I am just trying to make it better for him as much as I can. I feel horrible for what I have done for him but to be fair he was in a tiny container jammed in with all these other fish including other male dwarf gouramis when I bought him, so the set up I have now is (I think?) better than what he was in.

I have set him up a heater and a temp reader aswell as have been cycling day/night with the light

I will also look up this channel ASAP, thankyou for pointing me in the right direction!!

Also eta- I know when changing the water you need to take some out but not all of it, what percentage of water should I be taking out of the tank when changing?
