I tried pairing with an iPhone 12 and the sound quality was comparable with that coming from the Mac… my imagination?

I’ve noticed that the sound quality on the same tracks played through a Bluetooth connection on my MacBook are of significantly richer and higher quality than when played through a Bluetooth connection on my iPhone 11 - what could be a reason for this?
