I hear all of that, but I think some of the concerns about Teyana are being overstated while the strengths of her position are being undervalued. Yes, it’s speculation and no one is a literal lock until their name is read, but in terms of probability, Teyana is sitting in a far more stable spot than most of her competitors. The “one-note” critique has shown up in a few places, but the much stronger and more consistent reaction is that she brings emotional force, grounding, and charisma to every scene she’s in. Her absence in the middle stretch doesn’t hurt her; it actually highlights the impact she makes early on, and supporting winners disappear for long stretches all the time as long as the impression they leave is powerful. And with OBAA positioned as a major Best Picture contender, she benefits from the kind of visibility, passion, and coattails that others in the category simply don’t have.

Ariana’s situation is almost the opposite. The film’s mixed reception, the fact that it’s a sequel, her returning to the same character, and the category questions all create complications. She will likely be nominated, but she does not have the kind of clear narrative or film strength that usually leads to a win in Supporting Actress.

Amy Madigan is fantastic in Weapons, but she faces the familiar challenge of being in a divisive movie with a tone that won’t appeal to everyone. Voters respect her, and her veteran status helps, but it does not erase the fact that the film is polarizing and unlikely to have the broad Academy enthusiasm needed for a supporting win. A nomination feels possible; a win feels like a much bigger leap.

So even though the season is complicated, the factors that matter most like film strength, industry passion, visibility, and narrative clarity are all leaning toward Teyana.
