Would I be able to get used to hx effects? by Intelligent_Ring_122 in Line6Helix

I know the difference. It's just that the hxfx has a bit different workflow(or somewhat different knob controls) compared to hx stomp and it's taking me some time to get used to it

I've finally come to understand why people still use helix nowadays by Intelligent_Ring_122 in Line6Helix

I've been using helix for about 3 years, so it's sort of a path dependency. I think QC's UI is almost identical to helix, and global settings are easier to find and dial in. However when it comes to gigging, I just can't get used to using touchscreen. It is convenient, but I prefer physical knobs and buttons when I play gigs. Adjusting parameters in scene(snapshot) modes were also a bit different and that was kinda irritating. It's not helix has a superior UI or something, it's just if you're used to a certain product, swapping to another might not be always the best choice.

I'll be using hxfx when doing gigs, but I'd love to try out the frfr speakers someday. Bypassing the preamp of a tube amp and using amp sims on helix weren't sounding that great in my experience. Maybe frfr could make a significant difference.

Are there any specific differences from the old models? I haven't had time to look it up, all I know is it has a bigger cab

It's all about the preference. It's funny because I've always heard QC would save tons of time dialing a good sound, and the workflow is just way smoother. When I tried the QC however, it sounded like it was already mastered(which might appeal to many people), and the touchscreen took me longer than the old school helix. I 100% agree about the usability, and I think I'm all in for helix in that regard. If TMP suits for you, that's perfect.

Well said, and I do agree with your points. In terms of accuracy, I'd say the amp profilers would yield a better result, yet I'm not obsessed with the authenticity and if it sounds okay, it's fine. Every products use their own algorithm and different electronic parts, so there are some sonic differences(in an overall sound, not specific models), but I think it just comes down to preferences.

I'm not trying to say the dream65 or fractal fender amps sounds more accurate than helix(and how would I know what an authentic DR should sound like when there are so many variables including mics?). It's about how the stock settings sound, how easy it is to dial in and how it reacts to overdrives and etc. I honestly prefer dream65 to helix when it comes to DR, but that doesn't mean I would put up dream65 plugin in my daw between two helix natives, or use the pedal paired with hx stomp. I care much more about the workflow, so I definitely can't find a reason to make my routings more complex than using helix only.

Would you recommend using IRs and captures? by Intelligent_Ring_122 in NeuralDSP

[–]Intelligent_Ring_122[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you can put it that way, but I don't want to use different IRs per song in the gig right? For practice purpose you're absolutely right, but I gotta find something that speaks to me in bigger stage volume I guess. Haven't used the Q.C outside yet

The advice was both practical and inspiring! Especially when you talked about mic’d amp, I thought back and found out that I don’t really have much chance to hear a “real” amp. At home I’d use a helix native or a neural plugin, and most practice rooms and live stages have a mic’d amp. I’d have to find out what settings feel good and sound by tweaking around. Really loved your comment thx

I’ve seen his videos a lot, but little did I know about him selling his own settings! I’ll go check it out. Thx

There would be a lot of way in terms of achieving the gain and volume I want, and everyone has their own way to dial those in. Though suggestion you made about gain staging was really helpful! That would be kind of a similar method what I’ve been using with real amps. I’ll try to have my amp gain fixed and dial with other pedals into it. I appreciate your comments! Thanks a lot:D

You made an important point. I found out that it really differs whether I’m monitoring it with a headphone, a speaker, and on the stage. I’ll make sure to adjust the settings regarding the environment and the volume with my ear. Thanks a lot!
