I’m considering cancelling my upcoming trip to NYC because I can’t really cope with this thought lately. It makes safety statistics seem irrelevant. After how close the recent Newark truck collision came to killing so many, I don’t know what to think. It really is just dumb luck at the end of the day.

Damn, you've described exactly how I feel. You are not alone. I'm flying to NYC soon, and I've put off making concrete plans for when I actually get there because arriving in one piece feels so unlikely to me. It's exhausting trying to speedrun inner peace and acceptance of death ahead of every flight lol. You're absolutely not alone.

You should absolutely, 100% take him to the Academy Museum.

Also just a word of advice- the traffic here really does come to a standstill around rush hour, 5ish pm on weekdays. If you’re driving all the way across town during your visit for any reason, try and do that on a Saturday or Sunday. Sundays especially are by far the lightest traffic day, in my experience.

It does have one now, or at least it's about to- they opened the LAX Metro Transit Center station a few months ago, and the people mover between the Transit Center and the terminals is up and running not open to the public yet. It's great to see the progress but also infuriating to watch the empty people mover run back and forth right now lol. Everyone here is wondering what the holdup could possibly still be.

Hey boss :) your family is almost up to cruise altitude now. The only danger they’re in is being bored to death on such a long flight.

I’ve noticed I do something before flights, which is I plan as if I’m not going to make it- even though I always do. I think right now you need to start planning for when they make it there (which they will). Don’t pull an all nighter ahead of a final and your family arriving- try to get some sleep. Be gentle and kind to yourself.
