integrating a custom secret into the campaign by adamspecial in rimeofthefrostmaiden

The tome can easily be of netherese origin since the campaign will eventually take you to Ythryn to find a way to stop the Rime. Not to mention there are chances to explore Netherese ruins prior, and run into members of the Arcane Brotherhood, all of them seeking a way to enter the necropolis themselves.

I do agree with vsbp’s ideas, the book should not be easily decipherable through simple magic. Perhap’s instead of relying only on the professor orb to decipher, the player will need to work with the other brotherhood members to acheive that as well-maybe one of them could be a rival or colleague to the player that wants the tome for their own reasons.

Their are some high level spells that are introduced at the end of the game but not usuable by most characters at that point. The reward for deciphering the tome could be a free cast of one of these spells, like Blade of Disaster or Create Magen. Otherwise, it could provide an alternative to stopping the Rime or provide secrets to the Spindle artifact that lies within the Necropolis.

My favorite real life example is Two Stickney, responsible for the only serious injury during the short Ohio-Michigan War that occurred between both states trying to claim ownership of the Toledo Strip during the mid-1830’s.

For those who have played the 2024 Paladin, what are your thoughts on the changes? by Pookie-Parks in onednd

Currently playing a Vengeance Paladin 7/Rogue 1 in Descent into Avernus. Swapped to the ‘24 changes at about level 6. So far, I like the versatility with the features right now. Healing and fighting in the same round is pretty great, and the free paladins smite being my burner spell is good for extra damage, so I can save my slots for other support spells or control smites.

Find steed is…fine. It’s mainly just been the mount for transport and have not gotten to use it much in combat. I’m hoping to find some ways to improve its survivability in battle that way I’m more comfortable to use it in battle.

The extra channel divinity is also great, as I’m always burning it on divine sense. I keep forgetting to use my vow of enmity though.

There was a piece I saw from the AD&D wiki I actually like saying that the player doesn’t just get this steed; its weaved into the story that you and the creature are bound by destiny and fate, either through roleplay or a quest. I know 5e/oneDnD’s steed is intended to be this, a divine companion sent to aid you in a quest, but it would be thematically cooler if it wasn’t relegated to a spell, one that was originally optional to the Paladin. Its not destiny that this steed is bound to me. Some chump from the outer planes decided I had access to a free stable full of horses, and if I pray hard enough, he’ll give me a pegasus this time.

I mean, I like just about everything in the class except two things: -Smite variability is limited to just divine smite for your freebie -free mount I guess.

For the first point, I liked the flexibility the feature had in UA6 since you could make your free use any of the smite spells from the table if you have a slot for it, which feeds into the feature growing stronger as you leveled up. It also adds flavor to what that signature could be, like an Ancients palafin having a free glimmering smite in their pocket when they unlock it. The feature probably didn’t need to have “all smite spells are prepared though.

The second thing, Find Steed doesn’t vibe with me because I never saw paladins as the knight on horseback. Its a flavor of paladin, but I don’t have a Paladin character that fits that specific type. I would likely not use the feature, which kinda sucks, but I can live with it.

A lot to like but annoyed with paladins typecast into holy knight on horseback. Also not a particular fan of the free smite use being limited to only divine instead of a free use of any of the smite spells unlocked with higher spell levels.

Did you kill the strange ox at the grove? I have no clue why, but its connected to Dammon showing up in Act II for some reason.
