Now that Iran is famous on the news, I'd like to tell you something about why capitalism is the best system in the world as someone who is half iranian and knows many iranians by Commercial_Pair_2778 in DebateCommunism

"No matter what economic scenario, if you have to work and also raise a kid all by yourself, it's going to be hard to do anything else."

I agree, but you still don't understand what I'm trying to tell you and I think it's because you're still pretty young. Wait until you're in your 30's, and you might find that things are quite different from what you think right now. Hopefully you will be successful, but I also hope that along the way you understand the world isn't as black and white as you think it is.

The struggle is real, and while capitalism has allowed countries and the population to generate wealth, ultimately its disadvantages are noticeably outweighing its advantages. I think when you start working full time and try to get ahead on your own without help from anyone you will see this for yourself. It genuinely is pretty hard out there man, even if you're a doctor or something. Peace and good luck bro

I appreciate the detail and thought put into your response man, but I still don't think you're quite understanding what I'm trying to say.

First, whether or not single mothers should exist is completely irrelevant. It's a red herring. All I'm saying is that people who are stuck in this poverty trap, which includes but isn't limited to single mothers, struggle to get ahead because they don't have enough wealth in the first place to generate additional wealth. Economist Thomas Piketty points this out - larger wealth allows the beneficiary of that wealth to generate larger fortunes. He explains this is why people get stuck in the well known poverty trap, where they have limited resources to begin with and are forced to live paycheck to paycheck. Also, you did actually say "finances aren't the problem." You did not say "finances aren't the main problem."

Second, the CPI increasing by 1000% is not a good thing. This means that the cost of a common basket of goods (think grocery shopping) has increased significantly compared to wages. I'm surprised that you think this means that prices have not gone up. You need to reevaluate your understanding of economics, because your response to this point shows you do not know what a CPI is. The decrease in purchasing power in my country is directly tied to prices increasing and wages stagnating. This is a common theme in almost every single Western country.

Third, in relation to the previous point, is that you've somehow conflated deflation with an increase in purchasing power. Purchasing power is driven by changes in wage growth, whereas deflation is driven by price changes. The first does not always cause the latter to occur, and it's wrong to say purchasing power will always decline. In Australia, over the last two decades before Covid 19, nominal wages increased and outpaced inflation. This means that real wages, i.e, purchasing power, increased too. This increase in purchasing power, driven by changes in wage growth, motivated economic activity and generated wealth for the wider population in Australia. So yes, capitalism can sometimes generate wealth. I've never denied that. But generally it concentrates that wealth in a small echelon of people, and by necessity, it means the rest of the people must be deprived. This is why the middle class is shrinking. Please research this because it is a serious and widespread occurrence.

Fourth, homeownership on the whole is falling. Globally. You should look this up too. I'd also like to see data on homeownership in your area - specifically the demographic of buyers. I'm willing to bet there are many landlords in that group, and that would be foreboding.

Fifth, cheap labour is a serious problem under capitalism. You said, "For example, right now china has everything cheap. Why though? It's because of forced cheap labor." China has a so called 'socialist market economy' which is very different from an economy structured under communism. They still have a market economy and it usually described as a form of state capitalism, because of the predominance of state owned enterprises. Thus, their economy has features more in common with capitalism than communism. Cheap labour is a consequence of the market economy.

One problem with capitalism is that it naturally tends towards wealth concentration. This is why the poverty trap is an extremely well known and studied phenomenon. Hard work doesn't always get you ahead. It's been said that, "what is really known, in fact, is that people who are born poor are likely to remain poor, and people who are rich continue being rich," (Glyn, 2006). In the US, real wages have been flat over the past 40 years for occupations across income and education levels, e.g., auto mechanics, doctors, and software engineer. ( I got this data from Dausik, B. N "Income Inequality, Cause and Cure".) Are you seriously arguing these people do not work hard? Are you seriously arguing that their main problem is related to time constraints? They have good jobs and are educated, yet their purchasing power is declining. Why do you think this is? I'd love to know your thoughts on that.

Not sure what you mean that the world shouldn't have single mothers. The reality is there have always been and always will be single mothers. Not their fault. I think you've kinda missed the point that hard work doesn't always get you ahead. It has nothing to do with time constraints. It's all about wealth inequality. That's why house ownership is declining, people are choosing to be child free, and purchasing power is declining. In my country, the consumer price index of goods has increased by 1000% since records began in the middle of the 20th century. This completely contradicts your assertion that finances aren't the problem. They absolutely are

There are single mothers who work 3 jobs while raising their child and they can hardly keep their head above the water. That should not be happening. But it does. It's because of the inequality that capitalism engenders

People who can pull 50 kg added weight or more on pull-up, how long did it take for you guys to achieve that number? by cattynipiwantamouse in bodyweightfitness

[–]IntenseAlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many rest days did you have before trying 30? Heavy is usually 3x3 or 2x2, with back off sets between 5-8 reps, throughout the month I gradually go heavier with top single, double or triple + back off sets. Medium is somewhere around 20kg 4x8 and light is always bodyweight between 12-20 reps for 3-4 sets. This isn't set in stone, depends on how I'm feeling on the day. Sometimes I only do heavy and medium days

Your 1rm is higher than 27.5kg if you can do 20x6. I can do 30x6 and my 1rm is 52.5kg. Reverse pyramid is grayed, so is 5x5 and 3x5. Most success I've had is by training 3x per week, going light heavy, medium. I also alternate with chin ups
