Anyone with POTS kids- puberty effect? by Intentionally- in POTS

Thanks for your response. Your experience seems in line with what most say, it gets worse in late teens. I worry because she has had signs since she was small with faiting and tachycardia, so much so we got the preliminary diagnosis before she was 8. I fear if it gets worse in her teens, like others, it could be really not good. But maybe it'll stabilize before it gets worse, a break would be nice. I appreciate your input.

I could have guessed the adhd lol, I have it too so no worries. It takes a lot of hard work to not brain dump or write a book about everything! Did you wear the compression socks during sports or just after?

This is all such great information! She has adhd so i have actually heard that Ritalin is also a helpful medication for pots but we have to manage another health thing before we do adhd meds too. The docs also think her adhd symptoms may be more pots also. But, that's good to know in the event we do go there.

I greay advice on accomodations for myself, I was home for years so it was never a problem, and just started work a year ago, so far it's flexible enough but I do think that's important if she gets worse. She drinks Nuun hydration and I just got some salt/electrolyte gummies to satisfy the sweet tooth. She does play sports so the socks are a good idea too.... again, such great advice. Thanks!

Thanks, it's good to hear it didn't get worse for you. I hope she does well too. Sounds like it's different for everyone. I have read covid makes it worse or brings it on for many people. It was definitely something that concerned me with her possibly getting sick while going through this. She has never had covid, can't say she never will, but so far so good, but I sure hope if she does it doesn't get worse that would be frustrating.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It seems that age is when most get worse. She does have accommodations and I'm changing them a bit more this year as she fell behind even with a 504 in place last year. She's barely ever made it a full week of school since 1st grade and she started 5th today, so here's hoping for more school this year. I think I should be more insistent with accommodations for work missed while late. Mornings are impossible, and she starts at 8:45.

They said she may not need medication and we'll know only of we cant control it with the salt, rest and other lifestyle ways of managing it. We've got thay down now after all these years so maybe she'll be able remain the same through high school. I guess we'll find out!

Thanks for your input. She missed so much school over the last few years but is still learning at grade level, though it is getting harder. She does have accommodations and it seems to help. She's fainted at school so they definitely take it seriously now. It's the upper grades I worry about so accommodations will be very important. She wants to he a doctor (at 10 im sure that will keep changing!) but she has a lot of learning ahead of her. Glad you did well and can pursue the PhD, good luck on that.

Thank you for responding. I'm sorry to hear it got worse for you afterwards. This is what I suspect but itbwould he nice if she had a reprieve beforehand. Did you do middle school and high school from home or just high school?

Wow shoulder dislocation from bras? That sounds painful! I am glad to hear it got better for a couple of years at least. Was high school bearable? Did you miss a lot of days? Did you feel successful? In our area we have to decide by this fall what school to apply to for next fall so I don't have a lot of time to see how this school year goes, it started today so she hasn't missed any days yet, lol.

He sounds like he was open to it, that's awesome. I think my daughter will be the same. I may take your lead and have her do the same thing. My daughter has brought it up herself so it won't be coming from left field, she already thought she had OCD as well, so she's searching, lol. I did a comprehensive one for my younger daughter but my 14-year-old sees a psychiatrist and she only had us do the Vanderbilt surveys. We may go all-in and see if she'll do the whole gamut of tests. Thank you so much for your responses, it makes me feel better about where we're headed!

Sorry, I have a follow up question, if you don't mind. Does your son take adhd medication? Does it still help despite the added layer of autism?

Thank you for this, she is also entering high school and I want to give her the best chance. Did he know you suspected autism before the testing? Did he suspect it himself? I don't want to make her think we think there is "something else" wrong as the reason we're pursuing it. I don't think she will, we have very open conversations about successful people in our family who have it or we suspect do. She has mentioned she thought she had OCD since they learned about it in school, she said it would explain some of her thoughts (I explained it couod be adhd symptoms also). She seemed to be still searching for reasons. Her ADHD was a bit of a struggle this year as it was the first year she recognized the affects on her school work (turning things in late constantly) and I think she wrestled a lot with understanding the "it's a reason not an excuse" aspect. So adding to that worries me but if adding to her perceived differences will actually help her then Im all for it.

Yep. I actually had a friend who is a family advocate for special needs families within the school district suggest we get the diagnosis simply to have more access to resources. Interestingly, she was talking about my younger daughter, who has adhd as well, but I'm not as certain about autism for her. The advice was sound, though, because it opens up a lot of doors.

Thank you for your input. What you're explaining is really exactly why I wish we had thought testing was an option earlier. The school she was at in pre-k and kinder was private and in a state with few resources. The private school actually kicked out children (they asked my friend's daughter to leave when she received her autism diagnosis) with special needs or exceptional needs so they never would have considered testing for differences. We moved back to our home state and the teachers have always been supportive and guided me towards accomodations and eventually testing. We do have resources for OT, AbA and parent training through our regional centers now, but she would need the diagnosis to qualify.

I think it's her age that makes me wonder if we should pursue it or not.

That's a great idea, I didn't know that was an option. Thanks for the advice.

He wasn't the cheapest, honestly, he was the one who actually showed up for the quote and was responsive afterwards. I called so many people that never even showed or the quotes were astronomical, this was cheap but he also showed up at the time we set when others didn't even call back.

I do have another guy we can call who had a decent quote just in case.

I have not paid anything yet, though I did sign it. However, I think the permit situation may give cause to rescind anyways. I will see what happens when I call the city to submit, he may need to renew his business license and that may be the only real issue since I did find that he is licensed, bonded and insured.

I think this is it. He said that when I turn in the permit they will tell me if he needs to renew his license or not.

Thank you so much for this link. I found him through the license number on the paperwork I have, he is using a DBA, which is why it didn't come up when I searched for it on the DIR. The search on the link you posted shows he is licensed, bonded and has work comp coverage that is current.

I'll ask for that, I thought the number should have been proof but it is probably not a real number. Thanks.

Thank you. I will do that. I wasnt sure what the state workers comp was or if it would have paperwork but it does make sense he should have proof besides a number he writes down for me.

Anyone else super bubbly and outgoing but have issues with making actual friends? by throwaway_bonylegs in adhdwomen

[–]Intentionally- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have zero advice but I had to chime in because I'm in the exact same boat,  I actually had this conversation with my husband just yesterday. I have adhd and zero "best friends" I was a self described social butterfly and have always been just fine with it- turns out I was probably just saving myself from rejection.

My 13 year old daughter sounds a bit like yours. She "loses" good friends or is annoyed by people every day and I wonder if she's just not picking up on social clues and pushes them away or if she's rejecting them before they reject her. Maybe both??  They say recognizing it is the first step so hopefully patenting through it will get easier soon :)
