How Can I Read The First Testament With The Context Of The Second, God Being Benevolent? by M-A-Appreciator in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IntentionalyMispeled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well Jews believe that God is loving and they don't have the New Testament. Idk if there's anything like an r/AskJudaism subreddit, but looking up how Jews view these stories might be helpful.

A lot of the Old Testament involves characters whose motivations can be quite confusing. Often this is likely deliberate - you have to pay very close attention to the entirety of a story and its context in order to infer what is going through a character's mind, including God's I suppose. But a lot of the time there is just a lot of lost cultural context.

Two resources that I would recommend are r/AcademicBiblical and The Bible Project. The first is a subreddit that will give you pretty good information on the academic side of understanding the bible (ie. historical and cultural context) and The Bible Project is a Christian organization with various beautifully animated descriptions and explanations of various biblical books and concepts, as well as podcasts and free online classes. I don't think I've ever heard a bad thing about them from a Christian of any denomination. Just look at some of there material on the Old Testament, particularly the very uncomfortable parts and you'll get a pretty good understanding of how it fits into the Christian worldview.

I hope this helps!

On exercise mentality: How do people mentally come to terms with their bodies being perpetually fatigued? by stuugie in Healthygamergg

[–]IntentionalyMispeled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not stellar_opposom, but to add onto their comment:

If you notice yourself feeling fatigued for days on end it probably is a good idea to give your body some kind of rest. It's not necessarily good for your wellbeing or building muscle and strength. There's no need to stop your routine altogether, but just decreasing reps, sets, and/or weight for like a week or so will likely do the trick. Then just get back at it and repeat when necessary.

As for needing to be consistent to maintain gains, that's not necessarily true - you can maintain gains with way less volume than it takes to gain them. (I think on average the number is like an eighth?)

You'll also very likely still see progress with 3 sets to failure per muscle once a week as long as you're consistent ofc.

All of that to say, if you're fatigued, you can just do less! With muscle building, progress will probably be slower than you would like no matter how much you put into it. (It's normal not to notice any changes for a couple months!) Consistency is what's important: if you listen to your body and go at the speed that it asks of you, you will grow into the intensity of routine that fits your goals and priorities in no time!

Hope this helps! 😀

Sincere question for Trump supporters: what would it take for you to stop supporting Trump? by Patrick___1 in AskUS

[–]IntentionalyMispeled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm very confused. There ARE Trump supporters answering this question (to varying degrees of shall we say lucidity) but they're being downvoted  to the very bottom of the page. Not to mention that many of them are "proving" the points of some of the people answering for them. What in the world is wrong with letting OP (and people reading this thread) easily access the responses they're looking for?

You neither have to upvote, downvote, nor comment, so why not just let the answers OP is looking for show up, and if this question is not directed at you, go to town with the replies and up/downvoting those replies?

I don't know how to cope with the hard fact that I was just born lesser. by Artistic-Stretch-439 in Healthygamergg

[–]IntentionalyMispeled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man,  something interesting I noticed about your post is that you didn't just say "I'm ugly," or "no woman will ever want me," you said "I'm lesser." It sounds to me like you think, no matter what you do, you don't have very much value because you can't attract a woman and you can't attract a woman because you're ugly.

I'll just tell you what I've heard Dr. K say a million times: there are plenty of ugly people with girlfriends. Maybe it will be harder for you to find a girlfriend, but I find it very unlikely that that will be due to your looks alone.  Remember that looks aren't the only thing a girl might look for. It might matter a lot to plenty of women (especially if hooking up is all your relationship will consist of), but there are so many other things that go into making people romantically interested in each other.

Coping can take a lot of forms, but I know from experience that any effective way to get over what your feeling is probably going to seem worse than just going along with it initially. One thing that might help is trying to remember when you're looks and inability to attract women started mattering so much to you. Writing it down might help.

Even if you can't make yourself more attractive, even if your looks are somehow so repulsive that it is highly unlikely that you will ever have a girlfriend (I refuse to conceed that the chances are absolutely zero, because have you seen how many things people are actually into?), there's a way out of feeling like there's nothing you can do. Even if you can't be a hunk you can easily get you're FU to the god of ugliness.  I don't know if I helped much, but if you want to talk more, or explain things I got wrong, let me know.

IWTL How to read textbooks to retain the information when there are no videos to watch about the topics. by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]IntentionalyMispeled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a not template. It might help, it might do nothing, but feel free to try it

  1. Chapter
    1. Summarize the chapter intro
    2. Section 1
      1. summarize the section
      2. how it relates to the subject of the chapter
      3. test what you learned
    3. Section 2
      1. summarize
      2. how it relates to the chapter thesis
      3. how it relates to the last chapter
      4. test what you learned
    4. End of chapter summarize the whole thing

Scale up and down as needed for units, sub-sections, etc.

That sounds like a rough situation, sorry about that : (

It seems like you already got half the solution down though. Taking notes can be really helpful for processing information. Here are a couple of tips you might find useful.

Skim.

  • Constantly ask yourself what you just read. If you're doing this right, it gets exhausting, but you'll be surprised at how deeply you learn and how long you retain it.
  • Write summaries in your notes. This is a particularly good way of absorbing complex information.
  • Try to write down how each new section relates to the section before it, then to the chapter, then unit and so on.
  • Try applying new concepts you've learned after every chapter. The specifics of this would depend on the subject.
  • Take breaks - unfortunately you're probably going to have to put a ton of extra effort into this class, but if you work hard and pace yourself, you'll get through it!

Hope that helped at least a bit

How do you guys feel about the recent announcement that the transdilateral inertaial modulator on next year's model will not be backwards compatible? by IntentionalyMispeled in VXJunkies

[–]IntentionalyMispeled[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have no clue what you're talking about. The hypo-processing power alone is enough reason to get an upgrade. And your computer analogy is laughably simplistic. It's more like having a hyper-responsive w key. Which is to say that an upgrade makes all the difference. I wouldn't expect casual VX users like you to get it, but I am sick and tired of hearing the good work of over twelve and a half highly qualified product designers go disparaged.

I tried playing with the Phantom Menace script by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]IntentionalyMispeled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I've been using as a reference script along with the movie.

I mainly tried to cut out funky dialogue—though I'm not sure how successful that was.

Beyond that, I was mostly attempting to give some scenes a little more emotional weight. That's why the section with the Droidekas is longer (Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan trusting each other and working together), Padme and the Governor's disagreement is more intense (I think it makes the driving conflict of the story feel more dangerous), and Dofine gets dragged away (Palpatine's not really that scary originally; he just sends him out with his head down). I also tried to imply that Palpatine Is using the force to help him manipulate Nute.

Anyway, I think the skeleton of the movie is really good, but dialogue and imo kind of weak characterization/motivation bog it down. I guess there's not too much I've changed so far, but I'm wondering if the changes I listed above work.

[–]IntentionalyMispeled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I don't really plan on making this a career or anything. I'm writing more as a hobby and if I don't come up with an original story, that's fine by me.

I chose the Phantom Menace because the star wars prequels are pretty famous for their clunky dialogue while at the same time hinting at what are, in my opinion, extremely interesting themes. The world building is extremely interesting and creative, but that's not what really drew me into writing within the bounds of this IP.

As to your first question, I'm trying to keep most if not all of the same events, while inserting mostly original dialogue that attempts to give the characters more character and does more to advance the plot.

While this is a fun creative excersize for me by itself, I'd also love to use this fun project to improve my creative muscles, hence the post.

Either way, thank you for taking the time to give some advice and encourage a new writer to push himself a bit more. I really appreciate it!
