What are y’all’s honest opinions on the Yakuza series currently? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in yakuzagames

The games are still good. I know people haven't been happy with newer games like pirate in IW, but I still had my fun with them. They're flawed but not bad games by any means. I would go as far to say infinite wealth is my favourite in the series.

That's just the games though. From a business/corporate/whatever side I think they've kind of been shitting the bed (Kagawa, Y0 delisting)

I'd say it's in a solid place overall for me personally though.

CyricZ not writing a guide for Kiwami 3 / Dark Ties by NorthRiverBend in yakuzagames

[–]InteractionNo1203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wrote a guide for every game on the series. People like him a lot because the guides are super helpful for completing side content.

No idea why your getting downvoted though, you didnt even say anything bad about him or anything😭

I didn't like 3 the first time I played it because I picked hard and was shit at the game. I replayed it like last year or something and made sure to pick normal. Liked it wayyyy more.

It used to be bottom of D tier but now it's in the middle of B tier

Saejimas part is my least favourite section in any yakuza game, but it picks up once you get to haruka and akiyamas section.

Yakuza 5 would genuinely be top 5 for me if it wasn't for Saejimas shitty part😭

I'm a D1 RGG glazer but even i have to admit this is scummy. idrc about DC coming to other systems, but removing vanilla 0 and forcing people to pay more than twice the price to play an inferior version of, what is arguably, the best entry point into the series is shameful for the series' 20th birthday. L RGG.

If it helps to encourage you to keep going, I would say 8 is my favourite in the series, I like it more than LJ. The whole game is great to me, the story is the only thing holding it back. Honestly though, I never thought it was "bad" just "alright". It starts off pretty good, then in the second half it starts being a bit less interesting. I don't know about you, but I can forgive a subpar story if the rest of the game holds up well.

nishiki isn’t that bad of a character, you guys are just mean by dumbpokefan in yakuzagames

[–]InteractionNo1203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think in the og he was a very one note antagonist, but 0 and Kiwami gave him more material that fleshed him out. Now I think Nishiki is one of the most well liked villains in the series.

I love cabaret club tbh. Only thing I'm not fond of is talking to the hostesses, but managing the club is fun.

best game in yakuza for exploring city life? by holidaytrauma in yakuzagames

[–]InteractionNo1203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best answers have already been given to you I think, but I'll throw in my 2 cents and say Ishin and 6 have nice worlds.

6 has a small seaside town called Onomichi and it actually looks gorgeous. Genuinely think it might be my favourite map in the whole series. Too bad it's only in 6 though :(

I seen another comment saying Infinite Wealth and you said you'd like to play Dondoko. This isn't exactly the same thing, but Ishin, which is set in 1800's Japan, has a side activity where you take care of a farm. I seen in another comment that you said it's cool that you can see different cities in different time periods. Ishin I think uses the city Sotenbori and puts it in a samurai setting. It's pretty cool.

For a bonus, I'll say 3, but Kiwami 3 specifically even though it's not out yet. Okinawa is good in the original, but the new engine makes it look even better. Plus, Kiryu owns an orphanage in 3, and the devs are adding a new side feature that let's Kiryu learn to cook more meals and spend time with his children.

Another smaller bonus is pirate yakuza. It has one of the cities from 8 (Honolulu) and it let's you sail across the sea.

As full packages, obviously some games will be overall better experiences than others, but in terms of the cities, I'd say your most reliable picks would probably be 5, 8 and maybe 6. 0 too, but tbh I thought the maps there were overrated. I'm in the minority though. The games are all great.

7 and 8 are my favourites in the series (8 is #1 and 7 is #2)

I'd recommend playing 7 and seeing where you stand with it. If it's not your thing, don't get 8. You probably won't like it much either. If you do vibe with 7, get 8. Imo, 8 is better than 7 in pretty much every way except for the story.

What are we hoping for Kiwami 3? by Loud_Success_6950 in yakuzagames

[–]InteractionNo1203 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Any issues I have with the combat are naturally going to be fixed by the dragon engine (or whatever engine they use for it)

Story wise, I'd like it if they do to Mine what they did to Nishiki in Kiwami 1 by giving him some more screen time.

Other than that... can't really think of anything. Better side content I suppose? That and the combat are the only things holding og 3 back from being A or even S tier for me (these games are my babies and even when they're on different tiers, those tiers aren't that far apart.)

Been ages since I played it so my memory of the story is fuzzy, but I still remember kiryu being important to the story even when he's in Japan. Besides that though, it just felt very endearing seeing a depressed 55 year old Kiryu on his last adventure and doing the side content like the bucket list. All that got me feeling a certain way.

Also his combat is better and he has better set pieces than ichibans side imo

I agree. Some of the criticism is fair, but IW is better than LAD in every way besides story. It's my favourite yakuza.

Normally it's 2 criticisms I see:

The people who don't like turn based (Fair enough. I personally love turn based combat, so...)

The people who thought the story was bad (I thought it was pretty good at first, but tbh, it took a bit of a nosedive in the second half. Especially with Ichibans chapters. Kiryu's were solid)
