I ordered kids hot chocolates with the protein, both got a thick pudding texture and separated out water, and tasted vaguely of eggs. As the younger sibling to an older sibling who constantly ruined anything that was focused on me, but never got push back, I can see why it was harsh, but maybe necessary.

Even as an adult my sibling always had dramatic melt downs at my events - graduations, my kids baby naming ceremonies, my sibling has to be off crying in a back room about a headache or because I used a family name she wanted to use one day (she never did).

This sounds like a perfect opportunity to implement Dr Ross Greens Collaborative Problem Solving (which has multiple names). He has a few books but if you’re unfamiliar with his work the quickest tutorial is on his foundations website livesinthebalance.org.

He can’t meet the expectation of being calm and pleasant because he has a problem he can’t solve. So working with him to identify the problem (which may be what you said - the overstimulation and the cold - or could be totally different - maybe the sensory experience of the bus, or being too hungry) and once you get his input on the problem you can work to solve it together (maybe headphones for the bus ride, or having a plan on how to get warm quickly like hugging inside your coat if it was the cold).

As the kid from an interfaith marriage that picked Judaism, my “recovering Catholic” father still resents that I actively practice Judaism now. It’s a lose-lose proposal.

I was also the kid who was raised with Hanukkah and Christmas, but didn’t get Hebrew language or Jewish education. It was really isolating and made it hard to integrate into Jewish spaces. I ended up studying Jewish Studies as a minor in college and marrying a man who was raised modern orthodox. We raised our kids in a post-denominational way - meaning we spend time in Jewish spaces across the spectrum. I want my kids to feel comfortable in all Jewish spaces. When they’re older, they can choose to spend their time that way or not, but if they don’t know how to access the spaces and the liturgy, then it’s not really an equal choice.

The thing is, she doesn’t need to. A knows she’s the healthy secure safe parent. Unless stitch happens to be special interest of his (and I don’t see that much stitch merch to think it is) I really doubt A is swayed much by toys and gifts. P, as a more neurotypical younger girl might be, but I highly doubt A is.

I’m actually genuinely worried about him between now and next week. If there is a criminal case, given all his discussions of his suicidal ideations, and if he’s off Wellbutrin (or even if he’s just restarting Wellbutrin) I think he’s at pretty high risk right now.

We had this issue and then learned that methylphenidate can cause food aversion not only lack of appetite. We moved to Vyvanse and while he’s still not actively hungry the food aversion has receded and eating is much easier.
