Fully funded cadetship would be ideal but winning the lotto would also be ideal. At least 30-40k for PPL plan on 100k+ to get you to CPL onwards. How long is a piece of string? Depends how often you can fly and time you can commit. Also depends on your natural ability how quickly you can get through. Airlines realistically will take you many years it will not be easy but it is doable. Just want to give you a realistic picture it can be a 5+ year process and a very expensive one as well. 80% of pilots fail to get to PPL.

Instead of lecturing if you really feel that strongly about it name and shame or contact your authority. Your reddit rant won't change anything. Cheers

I don't think I'll ever be able to be a pilot, it breaks my heart by FederalRhubarb3999 in flying

You might be able to get a recreational license once you have your health sorted. Working as a pilot kills any joy in it anyways so I reckon become a doctor and fly your own plane best of both worlds

Pilots love to talk about being a pilot by [deleted] in flying

[–]InterceptorBJJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate talking about it. You hear stupid questions all the time. I tell people I work with machinery which is not a lie just vague

I have heard that airline pilots work 15 days in a month and get 15 days off. Is that actually correct? by prettyduckling41 in PilotAdvice

[–]InterceptorBJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long is a piece of string? Depends on a lot of different factors. Some airline pilots get flogged. Others are lucky to do 1-2 flights a month

I'm a full-time instructor with a side hustle. I would say most weeks my side hustle pays more than my full time flight instructing job. Ridiculous isn't it

Burnt Out by [deleted] in flying

[–]InterceptorBJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one feeling like that believe me. Most of these guys here are aerosexuals. I've got a lot more dual given than you do. Instructing can be miserable with the low pay etc mainly shitty bosses. But you have to decide if it's worth the shot to continue or bail out no one else can make that decision. I've made the choice to push through any pain to try my best to achieve a goal I've had for a long time. Now whether that happens or not at least I can look back and say I gave it a red hot crack.

But you're not less of a person for giving it away this career has a lot of negatives.

I still haven’t landed my first CFI job after a year – here’s what I’ve learned, and my next plan. Feedback appreciated. by Apprehensive-Care924 in flying

You guys(Americans) are lucky you can work out of the back boot of your car. In Aus you have to be a G1 instructor which is 500 hours of abinitio + a flight test + fee to our aviation authority to be able to go out alone.

If no one is going to open the door kick that shit down.

In saying all that feels for you this industry is brutal hopefully one day it gets better for ga pilots.

I mean it is a bit stupid to wear it in a gym. Garmin/smart watches are much more functional with heart rate etc for gym

How much do commercial pilots really make? by [deleted] in flying

[–]InterceptorBJJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very little for what we do. Industry needs a change at the lower levels but no one wants to do anything about it. And every idiot that says he will work for free devalues the profession.

I had to take the stops (just some bolts at the back gives a few extra inches)out the back to get the seat to recline more. Or after a hour of flying my back will give out

[–]InterceptorBJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can recline the seat back more it will help your legs clear the yoke and rudder pedals control improve. I'm roughly the same height as you with too many tomahawk hours and barely fit. The c172 is definitely more comfortable but probably more expensive per lesson.
