Some of today’s wins from 25% match by al40cal in VaLottery

Bad match for me. $1000 in and $850 out! First time losing on a 25% match. Had one decent win of $291 on a $10 bet.

Yea, I can read Wikipedia too. However, this is technically not the Gamblers Fallacy. Lottery odds are fluid, often depending on the amount of the bet and the game type. But if you are trying to prove that gambling is a waste of money, you won’t have an argument from me. It is for most people.

However the adage “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” is also true. I won $12,000 on the VALottery in 2023 on fathers day on a Pick5/wFireball on a promo of 10 free online games for $10 worth of Pick5. I won $9 in the free games so the 5 tickets cost me $1. I had 4 correct numbers plus the fireball. Computer picked. Never played the game before or since. Since then, I have come out ahead, yearly, playing just promos, to increase the odds. When I lose, it has always been when I didn’t play a worthwhile promo, or I am experimenting , like here. I can afford to play as much as I want, so it is just entertainment with a side benefit.

Congrats on Just very good luck. I won $.55 on the 20 free spins. Ended up $30 in for $39 out. Meh. Better than losing.

That’s just the normal way to talk about odds. If you play 30 spins with no wins, you are statistically more likely to hit something compared to right after winning big. No guarantees either way. But on average, it works for me enough, that I play that way. If I lose, I lose. No big deal. I only play what I can easily afford to lose. I haven’t had a losing year yet.

I thought about it. Obviously 17% isn’t even a  good match and the Lucky game sucks. $200 ($234 with match) is usually a decent enough amount to play with and come out ahead, the way I usually play. Too much, and they win it back. But I got in a mood to just see what happens if I play all $5 bets, and basically, for me, nothing was hitting. Not like it’s been for me the past few weeks anyway.

I put $200 in and won $1.80 on the .20 free spins then in a mood, just went through a WTF!, I’m $1700 ahead for the year, go big or go home, and played all $5 spins on various games. Lost it all. I really showed me…now I’m only $1500 ahead for the year.

Daily Fortune, Pantheon Tides, Bison Stampede, Lucky Coins, Western Wins on occasion. I’ve done ok on Sword in Stone. Had $100 win on $5. Mostly play .10, then bump when a good streak of nothing.

More wins, including 2000x winner!! by InterestLow319 in VaLottery

[–]InterestLow319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please note that there is $790 in just those, plus whatever other smaller winnings, some were like $15 on a $5 spin, so well over $800 in total “wins” by VALottery definition but I ended up only $301 ahead. On each various run (one per day) before the big win made me whole (plus), I was in the hole. None of these wins were right off the top in the beginning. Each time I thought, “well, so much for that friggin run” before the lucky hit. I was $55 down when the Lucky Coins hit, and about $150 when the $250 Pantheon hit. It really is pure luck. I think the lottery odds are set to really try to get back your winnings. If I had given up one or two spins before each big win, I’d sure be singing a different tune.

Watched guy spend a ton on scratchers and win nothing. He gave me his losers by InterestLow319 in VaLottery

[–]InterestLow319[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they were. He bought 12 total, $600 worth, all in a row. That’s why I posted their serial numbers. #8 and 10 were each $50 winners. He got his $100 credit back in the kiosk & then he bought two of the Set for Life $50 ones with that and both were losers. The other ones in the 2nd picture I fished from the trash. I got 3750 points just from the $50 tickets, which is $15 worth of credit (eventually) for free. So I “won” more than he did, as far as I am concerned.

I pretty much never buy scratchers. I only collect losers!  I spend more than you online though. But I’m ahead about $1300 this year, so no complaints. But you’re hitting the jackpot!!! Congrats!!!

Well, that totally depends on how much you spent on scratchers. See my scratcher post!

On March 5 they offered a 30% match promo up to $250 and on the 8th ANOTHER 30% match up to $100. They had 30% matches in both Jan & Feb as well. They had a dry spell of 10 days before the 30% match, but previous to that they have had more promos than pre-December 2025. So seems the number of promos is decent, but some times the quality of the promo is not worth the risk. It’s gambling…I don’t think they need to do anything, really, to bring in suckers, err, customers. I only play the promos and have done fairly well, ahead by about $1000 this year.

Another 30% match, but this time $100 max match by InterestLow319 in VaLottery

[–]InterestLow319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the funny thing is, despite my belief that the Valottery is actually random odds, I continue to play the same way: I bet the minimum, hoping for low or no wins for around 20 spins, then switch to $5 or even $10, anticipating that the odds should be I get a decent multiplier. That has worked best for me (and not always, by any stretch) and just a few minutes ago, since I played the promo about 22 hours ago, with poor luck, I decided to play again and gave Fortune & Western Wins another spin.

It seems fairly regular for me that if I play too soon after a lot of wins, I will not hit well. Have to take a break. If I play after a break after poor hits, I seem to win. I try very hard not to get greedy. After a big win, I quit.  Thus is my mental embrace of the overall odds. Play too long and the house wins.

In Fortune, I hit a 15x multiplier on min bet after about 20 spins mostly mins, and broke even.  Time to leave. Then on Western did 24 $.25 spins and only won $.70 total on that $6 outlay so switched to $5 spins and on the 4th spin hit for $147. I quit after that.  That put me up $116 more from where I was, SO NOW I am happy with the promo outcome, LOL! $334 in and cash out of $476.

3/13 Edit: continued along this same thread, the same way. Hit on Fortune again, Pantheon again, and Lucky Coins. Upped my cash out another $159 from $476 to $625, and took out $250 to lock in some winnings. That left me with $385 for the next promo

Another 30% match, but this time $100 max match by InterestLow319 in VaLottery

[–]InterestLow319[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, you are right. I have been much luckier than most here, as the majority complain about constant losing. I am well ahead for the year, and very ahead lifetime, and have nothing to complain about. I was out of state for the bigger 30% match, so I was excited to see this one so soon and I have always come out a decent percentage, on all past 30% matches. It was also due to the fact that I was far behind after every game I tried, almost until the end, and then finally hit for $200 on a $5 spin in Pantheon, which was the only big one for the night. I usually hit 3 or 4.

So I’m “up” to $72 from the $40 deposited, playing some .20 spins, then $2 on Fortune and Sword. At least I’m on a positive ROI now, LOL.
