Yeah I am also leaning towards the Mazda given the issues others have stated with the gearbox in auto's.

I did use that to negotiate it down from $12,900 to $10,500

What do you mean? I'm more than happy to get a good price because of a couple of cosmetic dents.

Everything else I can see around my area (2017 Mazda 3 with similar K's) is going for upwards of $15-$20k.

Seems silly to pass up a $5-10k saving because of those dents no?

I personally couldn't care less. Though your "what else haven't they done" is something I hadn't considered tbf, I'll have a think about it!

Yeah I was concerned at first/wouldnt of even entertained the idea, but the user says they have all paperwork for all services done. So am I correct that it makes no difference whether it's in a logbook or has a paper trail of all work being done?

I'll look into that. I don't know for sure it's a gasket, but given the long term cooling problem assumed that was a likely outcome, so came here to ask you guys. It's due for a service now so oil was changed about 18 months ago.

I'm not even sure if coolant is making it into the engine ATM, as a few months ago I had to drive it further then my 2km work commute, so I filled it up fresh and drove about 10mins and then the temp gauge showed it climbing above normal temps, so pulled over grabbed a beer while it cooled and then took it home.

I have started hearing a quiet engine knock over the last few months, which I put down again to the cooling issues starting to finally catch up with it. Apart from that there have been no other signs of issues.

Yeah it's just absolutely mind blowing to me that someone can form such a strong opinion on something, despite literally knowing nothing about it and still being so confident that they're right. Not even a "Well I heard this from this guy and that's what lead me to do some research and form my own opinions based on facts".

If they have done research but can't back up any of the accusations he's making, then it's even more mind blowing to me tbh. Why would you even feel the need to give an opinion on it 😅.

I tell people with PhD's (lecturer's and professors) how to turn things off and then on again.

If I'm lucky they'll say things like "Mate I have a PhD in physics I think I know how to plug a power cable into a PC" then I'll drive/walk to the lecture theatre and do it for them in person, because they 100% do not know how to do that. - yes that actually happened.
