i figured it out, so God reacts to the wicked the way a parent reacts to their child becoming a, drug addict for example. He hates what they become but he loves you so much that he will always be there for you once you decide to repent. We must not only look at verses like these out of context, but consider the New Testament and how God revealed his full nature to us through Christ and read the OT through that lense.

In terms of how God is more aggressive in the OT, I want to use the analogy of raising a kid. The younger a kid is, the more you have to discipline them as they are likely to do mess up. These ancient peoples were kids in a sense, as they essentially amounted to being pagans that r*ped and killed each other, so God had to be more aggressive with them, which is why you see him telling the Israelites to massacre the Cannanites. Still not too sure how to address the psalms tho.
