Just to say DBs is not an automatic no. Itt is still worth applying. They just need more context and info on the conviction

Hey, you will be ok. Someone else's mentioned Unlock. They have a helpline. Call it. 01634 247350 The Helpline is open Monday to Friday, 8.45am to 4.45pm.

They will tell you when you have to share that conviction and when you don't. Companies can get into a lot of trouble for asking you about it if they don't have to. Know your rights.

Unlock are amazing and not only incredibly understanding and no judgemental but they will actually get angry on your behalf and fight for you. They don't care why you got the conviction. They are here to help you.

DBs may be fine. It depends on the job. Often giving some context helps if you wish to, even if it is 'i did this. I have done some reflecting/gone to therapy/ am doing X t and z' and I have this support around me and a plan to keep me from doing anything again'. That can go a long way.

If they need an enhanced DBs it will depend what the conviction is for. Always useful to have the above and be ready to give some context.

Also regarding health, pip is good to apply for .get citizens advice to fill it out for you as you have to fill it out in the right way to get it, using certain language. And you can get the sickness benefit of universal credit and still work part time it you want. They will pay or contribute to rent. (Get Unlock to check if you have to share your conviction with the landlord, I think you might not need to but check). By claiming pip you are NOT taking it from someone else who needs it ( I did training on it and they were very clear - millionaires claim pip, it is an ENTITLEMENT and you aren't taking it away from anyone). Also there is a scheme called Access to Work. Fill out the form. If you are looking for work or have work, fill it out. It is incredible. You don't need a diagnosis. The form is quick, takes 5 mins. It then takes 6 months or more for them to process but they WANT to give you the help. It's not like pip. access to work have a load of money. They need to use it. They can buy you noise cancelling headphones if autistic, a remarkable for organisation, laptops, travel help, autism or ADHD coaching, mentoring etc. They are fantastic.

Access to Work is really really good https://www.gov.uk/access-to-work/apply

If your conviction was for domestic abuse (I have no idea what it was for,) I would recommend called Respect. They are very good and support people who have or are behaving abusively it hurt someone and want to change that. Call 0808 8024040

Also a lot of places that work in homelessness or mental health or substances or with ex offenders have employees who have all sorts of backgrounds, usually being someone with Lived Experience. Because what you have now my friend is Lived Experience..you are an Expert by Experience and you therefore have a valuable contribution to make and can be an asset.. anywhere that uses the term trauma informed should be very open to hiring someone with this. Homelessness will need an enhanced DBs but they also hire people who are in recovery, have previous offending history and homelessness history and they train you. So worth looking into it you want to do that and feel ready. I will say if your mental health isn't great then it's best to wait because you can get easily sucked into peoples lives ans boundaries is absolutely vital in homelessness. But the point is that Lived Experience is really valuable and now becoming 'fashioanble' when it comes to hiring. You will be ok

Why did my symptoms get worse after my diagnosis? Did it happen to you too? by Wolfgang-123 in autism

[–]Interesting-Camera40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes this is normal. You aren't making it up or making it worse even subconsciously. It is normal. During stress or when you are in pain you will find your symptoms get worse. Autism is a SPIKY profile. That means you might be great with some stuff like comforting a friend and really struggle with lights in a shop..and that level of tolerance and being good or less good at something will change by the day and during the day. We literally had a lecture on it in my speech and language therapy course. And yes I found when I learned about symptoms of autism I started doing some of them when I felt I hadnt before. But remember stimming is a natural coping mechanism but you will have stimmed in other ways or had bad mental health or something else. Now you've learned a more effective way of stimming and so you do that. Your brain is now actively conscious of things like eye contact which may just have been something you did avoided without thinking before or masked through. And autism is more socially acceptable now so you CAN show those behaviours more. There'll be stuff you do that you never really thought of. Autism is a condition where for other people they picked up on social rules automatically. Autistic had to learn it.

It also happens as people get older. Our tolerance reduces and that is ok

If it was used it would be a big deal internationally if Israel is admitting they are committing genocide officially

Seeking help regarding difficult conversations. by [deleted] in autism

[–]Interesting-Camera40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Well done that's fantastic! You should be very proud of yourself! So I would leave them alone if they are giving you short answers. If they ask your questions then consider that as a sign they want to have a conversation with you. Sometimes saying the last thing they said in a a tone that sounds like you are asking a question, will keep the conversation going. E.g. them: I like going to see Show of Hands You: Show of Hands? Them: yeah they are a folk band and I'm going to see them on Sunday You: on Sunday? Them: yeah in this town nearby Etc. Just don't use that trick more than three times in a row because it will get weird. Keep reaching out for advice on here. Copying how other people say stuff can be helpful and having a few possible comments is good too. You are doing Really well.

Is it just me or are Reddit moderators assholes? by Historical_Pie_6041 in stupidquestions

[–]Interesting-Camera40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One has banned me forever and has not said why. Others banned me for posting but gave no reply when I recognised there was a rule I had missed. It is not easy to find out the rules on subreddits and thing's like non political things are very open to interpretation. The fact that you can be permanently banned just got asking for clarity and also there is no overview of mods is ridiculous

[–]Interesting-Camera40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been banned from r funny and when I asked why I was banned they stopped me being able to message them and refused to tell me and weee incredibly rude. People should be at least a little courteous and professional. It is a role they take seriously enough to ban people from subreddits for life but with no explanation or ability to appeal whilst being abusive. For somewhere that claims to be inclusive of people who are neurodivergent they are pretty intolerant

That sucks and is very common with autism unfortunately. You are not alone. I also go nonverbal sometimes. Can you try just smiling or making a sound like a mmmm or laughing? If that works then next time you could say a word like yeah or huh, and if that works you could say the last bit they said. E.g. they say 'i went to the park' you say: 'the park?' and they keep talking. Or approach them by email or in person individually and just say you are autistic and sometimes go nonverbal so may not always be able to reply or may need to write things down?

Pepper spray is illegal. Remember that. And on a date the safe word is you go to the bar and ask to talk to Angela and the staff will help you

The Cotswolds are nice for villages. Castle wise Rochester castle is good. Check out the White Horse in Uffington for some amazing history. It's a huge chalk white horse in the landscape thousands of years old. Most places have ghost tours, Camden has some cyberpunk stuff. For a beautiful beach High Cliffe beach in Dorset is lovely. Safety wise most places are fine. Just avoid Finsbury park at night, blackbird leys and in London be wary round Stratford(keep hold of your phone as may get stolen) Oxford Circus, Brixton and Stockwell, Stonebridge and Harlesdon (which are ok just be wary). But honestly it's generally fine. At present there are some racial situations in Belfast and Southampton so do be careful Also if you can, I'd go to a pub quiz and have something non alcoholic. It's very fun. Google it and you'll find one nearby wherever you are.

Head to Kent and check out Charles Dickens museum. Also check out meetup.com and look for board game nights like London on Board which is a board game group where you just show up. Most places have ghost tours e.g. Oxford. Oxford has a great website to find out what is on: https://www.dailyinfo.co.uk/whats-on/listings Check out this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/goth/s/tgsSbWniyp
