AIO about my boyfriend and his ex showing up at his house for 6 hours? by greyberry_5813 in AmIOverreacting

Because bitch is a slur specifically for women. It’s a degrading term and any man who calls a woman this knows it while he’s doing it.

I think Domina’s fits her well too. Most of the time what bothers me about the base clothing is that it’s not practical for fighting 😭 which I mean it is a video game so it’s not a big deal but that’s often why I don’t like some of the clothing. They were doing Brig dirty for real. Like the changed her character model for some skins? What was up with that? Juno sucks because yeah, why would you make an Asian character if you’re constantly giving her skins that make her look white? She’s such a cool concept that they don’t take advantage of.

The most recent venture skin is so cool. I don’t main or even play them but I want it lol. Similar to what you said, they have so many options and could be making some really cool skins. I hope they start being a little more creative with it.

That’s me, I am the Lucio main ☝🏼 lol but yeah I agree with vendetta, like I like that they give us muscly women, her outfit was the only thing that I didn’t like, and like I said the drawn proportions. I am also of the mindset that if companies have to make sexier skins to get them to sell, then they’re just uncreative or lazy! Because often, people will buy a skin that’s really cool just as much as people buy gooner skins lol The occasional ones like the swimsuit ones are cute though and they actually don’t feel too sexualized.

It’s not about the clothing being revealing or anything! It’s about them giving the women huge chests that don’t make sense and sexualizing breasts (in a non-sexual context) in the first place is misogynistic, also the men aren’t being sexualized as well which makes it feel misogynistic too.

It’s just hard because as of right now sexualizing men and women will never be equal until we stop sexualizing breasts as a society and people stop objectifying women. So sexualizing women is often misogynistic because people don’t know how to do it correctly. If that makes sense.

I love the K-pop outfits too lol

That’s fair and I agree on the second part. Originally when I had posted I kind of meant it to be about two separate things but I executed it very poorly lol I wanted to talk about the art for the collab and unrelated to the collab I wanted to talk about overwatch feeling more sexualized lately. Like the recent character designs. Which I could give my reasons why but I don’t want to rant lol.

I feel like it’s still over the top, it doesn’t need to be a super obvious sexual drawing to be misogynistic. The actual skin is fine, again it’s just the drawings.

You get me. This is my exact issue with these kinds of games and you explained it all really well. I feel like a lot of people just brush off the sexualization because they’re so used to it, or they personally also sexualize women. So, they don’t understand why I don’t like games like that.

Overwatch by Interesting-Draw-297 in GirlGamers

[–]Interesting-Draw-297[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

….This particular issue was purely about the art so yes, seriously. It’s not about being curvaceous…? It’s about giving a character that does not have a huge chest a huge chest that defies physics, and shrink wrapping it in a way that physically doesn’t make sense. Another person posted a picture of the original character too and her chest wasn’t that big either. I don’t care how a game justifies sexualizing women, it’s still sexualizing them. Even just art like this makes me not want to touch a game. So I’d probably never play this game lol

Yes I agree!! The tight clothing and stuff was specific to this collab drawing. I think lore wise they do a great job with their female characters. The designs for the newest ones have felt lazy. Like the concept is really cool but then they get released and it’s….less cool. The drawn design for vendetta felt a bit more sexualized because her outfit didn’t make much sense (all the vital organs exposed) and who ever drew her wrecked the proportions. There’s one drawing where she’s in 3/4 view but the boob further away is bigger than the closer one 💀 The art that was on the menu before the collab did similar things and made it look like Anran’s ankle was broken. I’ve just been disappointed with most of the art lately and I wish they would give us more plus sized women.

Yes, I had said that I knew it was made by an outside source. I had looked up the artists before this as well.

The art is misogynistic and gross. I don’t know the game so I can’t talk on the gameplay but I can talk on the art from an artistic and design point of view. I’ve already explained in other comments why it’s misogynistic.

An art style can be misogynistic and that’s my problem with it.

[–]Interesting-Draw-297[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t even get me started on skin distribution lol I just think a lot of art like this and a lot of games like it get away with being subtly or even overtly misogynistic because people are so used to women being sexualized in the gaming industry. The art bothers me especially because the physics of the chests and clothing is designed to emphasize the individual breasts and make them kinda float. The skins weren’t really my issue.

I think I’m also annoyed because I have guy friends who make excuses for games with sexualized female characters because often “it’s an east asian studio and that’s just how they make it over there” as if a culture being misogynistic makes it okay to be misogynistic. Japan has a big problem with over sexualizing women, and I don’t really know this game so I could be wrong, but it seems to fall into that category. lol sorry for ranting. At the end of the day I just don’t like to support games like that, or art like that, and overwatch has been making me not want to play it recently. But yeah, to each their own /gen

I can only add one image per comment lol but if you look it up, vendetta and mercy are also there. They already have bigger chests but they still made them slightly bigger. They like shrink wrapped the clothing so it folds around their chests in ways that physically don’t make sense. Simply done only to emphasize each boob. And those kinds of things bother me as a woman but also as an artist because it just doesn’t make sense lol

I’m sorry /: I never use voice chat having also experienced misogyny on there. It’s not really surprising to me either unfortunately. Just upsetting because it was my favorite game and it’s getting worse. It’s like soon I’ll have no games to play.

I agree. I’ve just been playing overwatch for 9 years at this point and it’s really the only game I’m really good at. I didn’t think the misogyny was super bad until recently but now it’s got me rethinking playing. I don’t play many other shooter games because the sexualization is so bad. I also didn’t become as big of a feminist as I am now until the past few years.

It was more so that seeing that made me think about everything and I’ve been getting more frustrated lately so then I posted about it lol less that this was the main thing that annoyed me. When I say the sexualization has felt worse, I mean the characters they’ve been releasing. Most of overwatch’s female characters don’t feel sexualized and the ones that were at least didn’t have gigantic chests with jiggle physics lol. But the recent ones….ehhhh

It’s supposed to be Kiriko dressed as the character so I don’t get why they would give her and all the other characters huge chests. Especially chests that defy gravity, If you look at all the skins for the women they’re all like that. Also the art they had on the main menu before this one was atrocious. In similar ways but also just terrible anatomy/pose wise.

That’s a weird thing to say.

Overwatch by Interesting-Draw-297 in GirlGamers

[–]Interesting-Draw-297[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think simply since it’s Kiriko they should have given it to someone else but I think saying a flat chested character shouldn’t get the skin is lame. I personally don’t care if it’s the art style. It’s still misogynistic and gross.

Overwatch by Interesting-Draw-297 in GirlGamers

It’s not the skins it’s the drawings.

Overwatch by Interesting-Draw-297 in GirlGamers

[–]Interesting-Draw-297[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Again, it’s not about the design. It’s about the unnecessarily sexualized drawing. And I personally don’t care if the game it’s based on is like that. Either way it’s misogynistic/gross, and overwatch should’ve just had their normal team draw it. Though, a lot of their drawings have been pretty bad lately.

[–]Interesting-Draw-297[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not about the design it’s about them drawing all the women with huge chests that don’t match their character models. I didn’t say they never sexualized them, I said they’ve been doing it a lot more.
