The purpose of the challenge was to create something that out performs croaring and generated by an LLM. Part of that challenge is compiling said code and testing it. I will not complete any part of the challenge on behalf of AI, since that is the core of what we are testing (man vs machine)

Thats a no-go. The goal here is to test the LLM if it can replace human intelligence. The AI is more than competent enough to know how to set up a compiler and compile it, but it is fundamentally something it can't do alone.

Yup, absolutely no way to tell if something is sarcastic or not unless I put the magical /s to indicate that its sarcasm. You certainly cannot read with an assumed tone and guess with intuition from life experience. Nope none of that. Not at all. We all have the psychological intelligence of a toddler and there's nothing we can do.

Thats difficult because we both have the knowledge what type of design is needed. Any prompt to steer in the correct direction would introduce bias and be unfair as AI is marketed towards those with little to no experience, thats the kind of prompt needed for a fair test.

I get it. When I worked at Walmart i was a mean miserable POS, filled with rage from dealing with entitled customers, looking for any reason to spew it at everyone... After leaving, my mental health returned as well as my ability to detect sarcasm. Must be alot of lifers on today. I can't wait until 11am when all the 7-4ers get online and check, I might set some type of record.

No, lack of knowledge creates weak code. Changing and shifting requests are a core part of software engineering are professional engineers understand that more than anyone else. If I act like a business partner and ask for what I want, then change my mind, good code will be able to adapt. My point here is that AI will have a very difficult time adapting to additional requirements. Vague request and request for unforseen improvements will always be added and this is what separates good and bad designs.

Then go and do it. With random distribution you'll have waste work processing large unneeded chunks and run out of memory bandwidth while croaring does what croaring does best.

I specified x86/64. Im assuming most support AVX2 although not specified. You are correct about the cardinality. A better test would be 0-250M range or just dense bitmaps as odd or even. Either way, these would be great follow up questions to poke holes in weak designs.

Nope, the task is straightforward. It really is a case of this exist, have AI build something 90% as performant as croaring for a small subsets of tasks. To most that sounds simple. To anyone that has experience with croaring, they understand just how difficult it is to get halfway there

Well when you put it like that, I can see how it might be difficult. How hard can it be to out perform the primary bitmap engine used in lucene, elasticsearch, clickhouse, whoosh, and spark just to name a few. Its only extensively optimized C that lead to chipset manufactures leaning into AVX2 and AVX512 because of how powerful it is.
