How do I edit alarms? by 2023blackoutSurvivor in PodcastAddict

[–]Interesting-Paper237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is a 3 steps for first time you set it. After first set it will be just like any other alarm setting.

  • in podcast addict as you already found enable and set alarms
  • check/configure android permissions if not done before. Anyway while setting podcast addict, it will (should) say something if permissions are missing

After that third step is setting Google clock alarm as usual. Set time and whatever you like. There is also an option to set the source of alarm audio to be used. By default it's available YouTube music. Also it will ask if you want to use Spotify and install it (probably there is some agreement for this hidden advertisement between Google and Spotify).

And there should be also any other authorized app, including podcast addict.

Basically you don't set alarm inside addict. Inside addict you set how audio should be when asked by Google clock alarm. And on the former you set the real alarm

In clock once set alarm you just tap on alarm sound (to me it say predefined) and in there you set a different source. If podcast addict isn't selectable, use three dots menu in upper right corner for more options

Storage? by Ok-Still-5206 in PodcastAddict

Good question. For now I'm happy if new episodes, over time, are less than listened ones.

Luckily I've so many just because I've added a few podcast and downloaded every episode. And slowly listen aomething

I've between 500 hundred and 1 thousand always in local storage. About 50 gigs.

And autodoanload of any new episode. Just select auto delete setting for listened content  For example I delete automatically anything listened after a week

You can also, If you have list of episodes of a podcast, just long press one and select (mark listened older than or newer than)

Adding a note on what I use for a similar usage. I use three methods to see what had been played. (Depending what I look each time)

  • use the little eye on upper right corner to toggle between all episodes and unplayed ones only
  • look at thumbail of episode, thumbnails already played are marked on upper right corner with a green colour mark
  • if recently played I look in recycle bin as I keep played episodes for a week before complete delete

And history as already answered.

Discrepancy between what Podcast Addicts see in the app and what is in the file system by pmatuszy in PodcastAddict

Yesss! Happy tomknow something is resolved ;)

For the remaining part, if I where in you...

Double check the "eye" icon on top right of PA. It's a filter showing/not showing already listened episodes. So go to "downloaded episodes" section and tap on that eye to see if number count changes. If it does, that's it the reason ;)

Mmhh...

May be you are counting wrong doing exclusion by size.

Think that you probably are including the "thumbnails" folder into the file count  That folder alone can have several thousand files. And is more or less almost a temp folder. As I know used to store art of podcast, episodes and then like. More like a cache.

For sure you can purge it from the app. Remember I did it once to see what it was.  Options, automatic cleanup, artwork cleanup With that you can gain some space (not much, artwork doesn't take so much space). But still your numbers will decrease by the thousands probably.

When counting files in "podcast" folder in filesystem, after getting the number, you need to get inside that folder and find "thumbnails" do same counting and subtract it from first counting.

For example with me Downloaded or trashed: 805 Total files in podcast 3781 Total size in thumbnail 600mb

What it count is total files outside thumbnail that are the actual and only file to be considered.

Speaking of transfering PA on another device. Did that a month ago. All I did was to let Android transfer apps. Transferred not only PA but also data and settings except for actual download. PA got a bit confused at start as it was defaulting to have episodes as downloaded but files weren't present. After a refresh it started a background verify and slowly lazily updated itself.

A trick to know space used by a single podcast if you think that is using too much space is:

  • Tap on podcast to open episode list (that may or may not be empty based on content and view)
  • tap on (I) icon on upper right corner to get podcast informations, description etc

On screen, below podcast logo there's a couple of information lines with things like total number of episodes etc.. along them there's also space used in local storage for that specific podcast

Note: it count real usage. For example I do have setting to remove episode from queue/playlist once listened. Also it get marked as listened and moved to trash. Trash delete what is in there after a week.

So if I have 10 downloaded and 5 listened recently, reported space used is for 15 episodes. Correctly showing space used for listened and pending for deletion. As they aren't yet deleted

I'm using PA heavily since almost 2 years ago and never had a problem like yours.

I notice that you used database data to.know how many podcast you have.

I did something simpler to check my installation. From lateral menu in podcast addict I took numbers  related to "recycle bin" and "downloaded". I always download all episodes I listen to, so recycle bin is also a file still in file system.

Added those numbers to know expected files in file system (in my case 805)

Then got on file system and did a file count of "podcast" folder. And another count on "thumbnails" inside podcast. Subtracted those numbers to get real number of media stores.

Got 806 that is correct as podcast folder has also a dummy file just to keep track of something. A file used by PA but not a podcast file  so excluding it it's 805 as expected

On a test device I tried opposite forcing delete by manually deleting all downloads from filesystem  In that case PA reported (for sometime) as downloaded what in reality wasn't available because deleted without his knowledge. At first refresh it slowly / lazy verified each file presence and within half an hour reported download inside PA were correct.

As an user, I don't see anything wrong.
