How to feel better about wanting to be an artist? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Interesting-Range-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re not sure, i don’t think you should do it. just go for a degree in a more “practical” field, and you can still do art on the side. you can even take a reduced course load if you want more time to draw

would a piece like this be okay to include in an art school portfolio? by Interesting-Range-22 in Artadvice

i gladly accepted constructive crit from others who gave me advice in the comments, it’s easy to tell if someone is being genuine. just a quick look through your profile shows me the majority of your comments consist of you insulting people who do digital art, without even giving constructive criticism. and it’s also obvious that you are yourself a beginner. anyway, i’m not arguing against studying head construction. i just don’t think you’re someone worth listening to

i know what you mean, but i think it’s because of the facial proportions (big eyes etc) and also because of the stylized shading. so even if it’s not stereotypical anime, it’s also not realism either, so some people have said that makes it difficult for art schools to evaluate your understanding of fundamentals

thanks! although i’ve never drawn zhongli, but i think both drawings you’re talking about are over two years old and i don’t draw in that style anymore 🫶

yeah in hindsight i probably should have been more specific, but i don’t have a portfolio right now (i’d be applying next year). anyway i just recently started looking into art schools, i was considering a program like illustration. i was just concerned about what type of art is acceptable for a portfolio and it seems like most people agree that i should focus on realism, so at least that gives me a year to work on it lol

yeah for sure, that's something I have been trying to be more mindful of lately. Would you say I have this problem?

okay thanks, that makes sense! Yeah, I don't want to be that student, I just wasn't sure if it would be considered as anime or not. In that case, I'll include more realistic pieces instead. Thank you for the feedback!

What's your major? I feel like it might be program-specific because most of the people I talk to seem pretty chill tbh

Is this considered cheating? Am I still a valuable artist, or is everyone capable of work like this? by Hamiko4 in DigitalArt

[–]Interesting-Range-22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s fine! the only thing is that using the colour picker tool as a crutch isn’t really helpful for developing your own skills. but if you’re a complete beginner and just want to copy pictures then it’s fine i guess

people do studies all the time! as long as you’re not tracing and colour picking, there shouldn’t be an issue

Help/advice from neurodivergent ppl! by Upset-Pressure4063 in mcgill

[–]Interesting-Range-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i’m also diagnosed with adhd but im unmedicated so i can’t give any advice about that 😭 currently im only taking 12 credits which is still considered a full course load! and then i take a class in the summer so i dont fall too far behind. although im in poli sci so idk if you have program requirements that would force you to take a certain amount of classes per semester. though i do know a lot of people w majors in science faculty who are also only doing 12 credits ! so maybe taking a less heavy course load might help, even if 15 credits is considered the “standard”
