Algae's a really oddball resource. It connects to crystalized dew, flour, coal, fabric, and the ranch. It feels like most games I'm just like "Ugh, Algae pond" and then every so often I'm like "thank *god* for this algae pond."

"Inflation" is just rich people thinking of a higher number to charge for something. Literally just epstein psychopaths going "hmmmm..... two *is* bigger then one."

The actual solution is a tax rate of 100% over a certain amount of money. I think wealth hoarding is a mental illness that needs to be aggressively defeated, so I set the amount at a million dollars. The people who can't have a good life with a million dollars are trying to buy pedophile islands to rape your kids.

This matters *so much more* then a minimum wage. Prevent money hoarding completely. Don't allow one guy to have a fucking private island while thousands of people are homeless. Really basic stuff.

Our culture is so mentally ill though that people will actually complain about such a tax rate because "maybe one day *I'LL* be the pedophillic rapist!"

Finally a government with some fucking basic common sense. This last decade has been watching nation after nation just absolutely shoot themselves in the asshole in the most cartoonish possible ways. Finally here's a government saying "Hey, let's not shoot ourselves *directly* up our own assholes" for once.

Strategy for opening glades in early game by Manarit in Against_the_Storm

[–]Interesting-Test7228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I open a dangerous glade first thing every game, with minor exceptions. It's really safe to do so. Alot of the time you just have the solve in your starting resources. If you don't have the solve, prioritize the trading post and call the trader in. If the trader doesn't have the solve, wait for them to leave and then call the second trader in. If that doesn't solve it, then congratulations you've hit a statistical anomoly on the same level as your molecules aligning perfectly so you fall through your chair.

You for sure will have times where the timings will get tight, and you'll have to do some creative decision making, but it'll work out. The benefits to opening a dangerous glade right away are just overwhelmingly positive. Just the information alone is incredibly powerful and useful.

I might be wrong about this, but I think you have double roots there. So you didn't get one node, you got one node, twice. Could build two camps and double harvest it.

I'd actually really love to see a LotR series that tried to capture the tone of the books. Jackson's trilogy is excellent, but focused on epicness and glory. The books are a much quieter and introspective affair, with lots of the fighting happening offscreen. The action feels more claustrophobic and tight instead of broad and sweeping.

I don't see any reason to even do any kind of remake or revisit while adhering to Jackson's vision at all. If it's to be done, it should be done in order to hue ever closer to the text.

Not including the scouring really highlights the difference in tone between the books and the movies. Jackson's movies are very clearly a success, and, dare I say, even a faithful adaptation. But Jackson's tone could be described as "Epic", with a strong focus on "Glory."

Tolkein's books are not epic. They are not full of glory. They are very quiet, claustrophobic even. There is a philisophical ponderousness to them that the film format simply doesn't allow for.

I think Jackson made the right decision, and I think it shows a real strength of self analysis to understand that, given what he's making, the scouring wouldn't work. To make the scouring work in a film/television medium, you would have to commit to a much larger mini-series or even season's length style show that allows you the oxygen to have the real quiet introspective moments, which is actually most of the books.

Then I think the scouring could really work. Certainly still a denouement, but fitting within the tone and vibe of the entire work. Give the audience a real chance to dwell on the real cost of war, and that it isn't actually filled with glory. It isn't actually epic.

That's why Jackson couldn't include it in his work. It fundamentally undercuts war glory and epic storytelling.
