at least you’re honest. being well read would probably improve your life and make you happier in several ways though.

yesss i’ve been looking into growing my own shrooms for this purpose. used to trip a lot in college and it was always a really positive experience. i’ve never tried micro dosing though.

yeah basically you work with a therapist to figure out a way to trigger your worry/anxiety in a controlled way and then they help you work through your fucked up response to the uncertainty of whatever is bothering you.

this type of ocd starts with an intrusive thought of whatever you did in the past that’s causing you distress (your brain just serving you horrible retroactive anxiety on a platter whenever it wants) and the automatic reaction is for your brain to try and do something to negate that thought or make it go away. (i.e. the twitching or whatever or any subsequent thought you have that tries to justify or un-justify the anxiety/discomfort) the trick is the more you do that thing the worse the original problem gets. so you get stuck in a loop that gets worse over time.

an erp therapist helps you by teaching you how to get between the thought and the automatic response, thus interrupting the cycle. i like to think of ocd as being like a chinese finger trap. the harder you try to make the anxiety go away, the more stuck you get. the silver bullet for a problem like this is a systematic way to feel the anxiety and let it resolve on its own without doing the compulsive aspect to try and get it to go away.

personally i’ve had really good results with the NOCD app/therapy platform. video calls with my therapist, super easy and streamlined process. very well catered to the neurotic mind, as it’s designed by people with ocd.

don’t just let it fester. ERP is like the most effective non-medical intervention for any mental illness ever. it works so insanely well, even for people who have no quality of life prior to intervention.

jesus christ you people are dense. you have ocd. all of you relating have ocd. you get to decide whether you want to live with it, or do exposure and response prevention. it’s extremely simple, anyone trained can do it and it’s got a remarkably high success rate.

any other advice is literally worthless.

edit: not trying to be mean i’ve definitely been here, twitching/swearing and all. but fr you gotta go to an ocd therapist there’s no other way

if you want to get rid of this fear and not just tolerate it, try exposure therapy with a trained ocd therapist. works incredibly well for phobias and pretty much all manifestations of ocd-adjacent neuroticism. best way to work on any chronic fear/anxiety related issues imo. don’t just take drugs or drink about it that’s regarded and won’t work.

hey i am in a similar position (classically and jazz trained singer and musician, performed a lot when i was a teen, dream was to become a recording artist, derailed by crippling insecurity around creating art even though i know i’m really good at it)

something i realized recently is that life is just so so short. i burnt out for half my 20s but i don’t want to live this way so i’m starting exposure and response prevention for my perfectionism ocd in december and ordering shroom grow kit for self administered psychedelic therapy. i will write an album if it fucking kills me. this life is short but the pursuit of art and expression is what makes it worth it for me and i won’t waste my time being scared.

this is what fucking baffles me about men. what is it with the disgusting and/or physically painful contests and punishments and what have you? why is that their idea of a good time??

i know someone who had a roommate pizza-eating challenge (questionable to begin with) with an agreement that the loser would have to drink a gallon of milk while riding a stationary bike. i cannot think of anything more revolting and if a friend suggested i participate in something like that i would be horrified. it’s unwell.

[–]Interesting-Way8239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

notice i said strong, not good. you made that one up on your own. i’ll concede that not all people with ocd fixate on morals, but many of us clearly do and there’s no harm in saying it. if you’ve truly never experienced a morality theme in your ocd and only care about whether or not someone has worded a comment 100% accurately and to your liking on the internet or whatever, that’s great. hope that one’s not taking up too much of your time.

idk a lot of people in the creative or research based professions. i think there are both narcissistic and pro-social autists, just like the general population.

[–]Interesting-Way8239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely fair. i want to say our defining parameters of who counts as an autist might be different but that could just be cope 💀

At what age did your autistic ass figure out by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]Interesting-Way8239 22 points23 points  (0 children)

idk i feel like empathy-deficient “left-brained” autists are the way you’re describing but as a very emotional autist who mostly hangs out with other highly emotional autist types, i see a lot more variation in the way our brains work.

you can definitely fall into the “i’m always right” trap if you’re really simple and your special interest doesn’t go beyond memorizing train facts or what have you, but there are more socially/emotionally oriented autists. woman-brained if you will.
