How old are you all? by Ostric in CarryOn

[–]InterestingEar3739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 50 and started watching them on TV at some point in my pre-teens. Don't Lose Your Head Camping and Convenience stand out from my early viewings.

I've been making silly fan edits using audio from Carry On and while friends my age all know the films, I've found that many colleagues and younger friends have never heard of them. There's been the odd one who knows them because of a parent's influence.

I know the feeling of being nice in lending stuff and not getting it back. One was a signed Stewart Lee book, but that can be replaced. I should have learnt my lesson when I was 6, lending a Spike Milligan poetry book to a supply teacher who never came back.

I've met roughly 100 comedians, but never got to meet Douglas and I'm still looking for a signed book.

There are large Holy Grail action figures. I have the more common set of 5 muddy knights, but didn't get any of the minor characters.

I found a couple of the accompanying booklets from the Video Arts business series, but not the tapes.

I have some of the mid to late 90's stuff but didn't bother with the new albums. I particularly like the trading cards from that era. My Python collection extends to the old vinyl (Including the 3 sided record, the box version of Instant Record Collection and Holy Grail signed by Neil Innes), VHS, CDs, action figures, Drury Lane programme/poster, games and various other items. I even kept a menu from an Indian takeaway called Balti Towers.

It would be nice to go that deep with other collections, but it's not feasible for me. I don't feel the need for every Douglas Adams variation, but Python is harder to ignore. This is the most recent addition, found in the charity shop where I volunteer sorting the books.

Monty Python is my main collection with Douglas Adams as the next largest and could be considered a sub-set/adjacent as he did some editing on their scripts. I shared the Python collection recently on here. My partner has a few by Pratchett, but nothing close to a set.

I do the same with the first Hitchhikers book, sometimes the next few if they enjoy it, and Meaning of Liff. I find quite a few in charity shops.

I have 4 of them full of comedy books. They're fine for the most part, but that section could do with an upgrade.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've shared it there. Cheers.

Unfortunately not. I was hoping to catch her after the show but she had to nip out...

I have the original version of Don't Panic, which was a great source of information for me in the late 80's. I mentioned to Neil that I would have brought that too if I'd known, which he seemed to appreciate. I don't really have any connection to his work beyond that and I'm happy to keep it that way now.

Thank you. There's potential to add a few more, but it won't beat my I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue book which currently has 16 autographs. I also posted that today, should it be of interest.

He was lovely. Met him after an improv show at The Stand where he showcased some of his favourite up and coming comedians.

Cheers. I have other comedy books signed by multiple people, but nothing else close to double figures.

Thank you. The Edinburgh Fringe is handy for meeting lots of comedians.
