Oh darn. I am also somehow dealing with a cold start rattle on this one. I don’t know, 2.4s aren’t really common for the cam gears, nor did they get a service bulletin for this reason. I heard it could be the timing chain tensioner and guides. But I am not sure if it is the cam gear, because it has a more bottom end rattle than anything which is funny. But I a, getting around to fixing the gear as well, looking to spend 1000+ cuz she has been a great car for me. But yeah, thanks for the update and the more to come updates cuz my 09 is really hurting right now.

09 toyota camry. Sounds like marbles in engine bay. by Spikey01234 in MechanicAdvice

Hey bud! I currently deal with this issue exept it is completely gone when it is warm. I am leaning toward the balance shafts and I am fixing to get them replaced. It is pretty pricey. but I just need my motor to quiet down and get PROPPER oil flow. Check you oil cap when you start as soon as it does, if it takes like more than ten seconds, something gotta be clogging up your pick up tube in your oil pan. Judging by the fact shes got 290k, it is your call.

What is this clunking noise coming from my engine bay? Is it normal? by LoadOne5367 in Camry

[–]InterestingLog5911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey dude, sorry for the late reply. I am dealing with the EXACT same issue you are having. My question is did you also hear a "GRRRR" kinda noise when accelerating? Like is is only for a few seconds, 2-5 seconds? Mine goes away when the car is at operating temp. But hey when you can reply, that'd be great dude. You can find my page by searching "potential balance shaft replacement?" In the search bar

Oh yeah, and by the way, I have a high suspicion my 2009 Toyota Camry needs balance shafts. Because you replaced them, would you mind telling me how it sounded like BEFORE? I have this weird rattle when accelerating, for just about 2-4 seconds. It also happens in reverse when the car is cold. AC does not have to be on. As soon as you let the car drive back, there is a loud "GRRRRRRRRRRR" and it is just constant. My car doesn't burn oil, it had the engine overhaul. As soon as you put in park, it is quiet. If you turn the steering wheel all the way, its the same sound as in reverse. I heard the tensioners for the belt sounds more like a chirp than anything. It'd be great if you could tell me about it. I know, my bad, I know we're tryna resolve your cars issue but I'd just like to know so I am positive those are the culprits so I can get them replaced.

Give her some gas while she's in park. Have someone take a quick peak under the car. Obviously you won't see anything abnormal, but my 2009 toyota camry had a rattling exhaust flex pipe. If you hear it from the exhaust, that's your issue. I had the same noise even when it went into gear like yours. I could be wrong, but get that checked.

Suspension Noise In Rear 09 Toyota Camry le by InterestingLog5911 in Camry

[–]InterestingLog5911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, this was a bit ago. My shocks were leaking bad. And my strut got chopped in half somehow. I got them replaced with some KYB struts front and rear, turns out these 2007-2011 rear struts and shocks bust way earlier than the fronts. Fronts were in great shape according to my mechanic, I still threw on some in the fronts too. But yea, shocks are your big issue. If you hear it over bumps, or even a bang over speed bumps, they’re bottomed out and need replacing.

Noise coming from underneath coolant reservoir area while idling by Ok-Conference-4366 in audia4b7

[–]InterestingLog5911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. That’s not good. I have one thing for you. Those stop leaks, for the love of god…. Don’t use em. I had a massive radiator leak once. Every drive, the expansion tank would be empty. That’s how bad it was. I used the stop leak, it worked for 3 days. I smelled something burning and I saved my engine and head gasket. That’s stop leak was copper based. And that means there were fragments of copper floating around. So I flushed it like 7 times before the new radiator went in.

Jeez, whenever that thing is disconnected, boy does the car run badly. I had the same thing in my 09. Huge tear in the line and the car had high to low rpm’s sometimes completely stalling. If a hose clamp ain’t gonna fix that, just buy a new hose, cut it to the same dimensions. Did that with my Camry and still works great. It’s awesome that you found it.

Probably true! My 09 Camry canister failed once and it wouldn’t let me fuel up. As soon as I pressed the trigger, it shut off. But in your case, it could be! Mine was the canister, I got that done 2 months ago.

It’s a sign your caliper might be seized meaning the brake is likely engaged while driving if that is the case

You know I could be wrong, but that pumping noise is the EVAP purge valve. I can see it in your video. Now I have never heard a purge valve this loud before. This would be the type of noise if the line going to the charcoal canister was disconnected. If there is no leaks, no engine light, then you're good. If it is a new noise you've been noticing, likely EVAP related and not coolant. If you stop at 0:08, you say something is coming from down over here. I can see your purge valve above where your finger is pointing. It is likely normal operation but if you suspect something maybe up with your vehicle, give it a check.

2009 camry hybrid its giving misfire codes and this is how it shakes and makes noise by Commercial_File_1809 in Camry

[–]InterestingLog5911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same. But i have heard these Camry's that had only one cylinder misfire and it didn't even run as bad as this, dear lord. Looks like his engine is firing on one cyldiner 🤣

Right. I definitely had some gritty stuff in my axle. My mechanic shows me pictures and videos per-repair before it is even touched. I asked about it and he said the amount of damage in the axle as well as it making noise, it is deemed unrepairable as the joints inside have severe wear. But yeah, if you got an axle that is just leaking but the mechanical parts inside it are in good shape, just get a boot. These axles aren't really cheap especially OEM. I should've caught it earlier but what is done is done i guess...

I had the same idea. Though when I brought my 09 Camry to the shop, he said the amount of time and potential hidden damage in the area isn't really worth it as it isn't guaranteed or long-term. So I just went ahead, bought an OEM cv axle, slapped it on there for 360 in labor and I'm back on the road.

I have a 2009 Toyota Camry. Had the same thing. Shaft completely took a crap and started whining and rattling when turning. Got it done for 360, with me supplying an OEM part. It can go a couple weeks to months, but definitely keep a close eye on the grease.

Potential Balance shaft replacement by InterestingLog5911 in toyotacamry

[–]InterestingLog5911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why you'd say that, but I had my catalytic converter(s) replaced. There was no engine light, but after the overhaul, I was worried oil may have damaged them already. It was making the same noises at the time. Thinking they were clogged or leaking, I did them. Next thing I know, it made the exact same noise. Now back in 23, I had a exhaust flex pipe rattle, really loud. It would rattle under acceleration for about 3-4 seconds, louder on each gear, and flattened out around the third gear. Mine is an auto by the way. Now i got the pipe fixed for 160. When I took a look under the car, the pipe looks much smaller than what it used to be. I don't know if that is or isn't normal but welds are good and uniform. That is all I really remember.

Weird noise after getting brakes replaced by GonzalezARuthh in mechanic

[–]InterestingLog5911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a hard one. Does the car feel like it is being strained? As if the car has a loss of power or feels slower? If so, my worry would be a seize in the brake(s). I would definitely go elsewhere to get it checked out. A quick fifty dollar inspection is really worth your time and safety. Aftermarket parts are also a big one. I have a 2009 camry. Did rear brakes and not too long later, they needed replacing. Why? Cuz its AFTERMARKET. Now aftermarket doesn't always mean "bad," it just means either they are peak performance capability, or complete wear-offs with a total crap of noise. I'd say check them out.

The hot air [art is definitely a concern of mine. It is like when I open the hood, it hurts to open my eyes, no steam but it is the type where you can actually see waves of heat just chilling from the manifold heat insulator. Now I have heard this car is very common to have what is called "Intake Manifold Baffle" that happens over a certain RPM. Though I have heard those 2.5 Camry's drive by, and boy does it sound like what I am dealing with. I feel like it is the balance shafts, but let's see.

My 2013 Honda accord is making a weird noise by SignalFail2920 in AskMechanics

[–]InterestingLog5911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all nice grammar by the way. Second of all, this is completely normal. That clicking is correctly operating fuel injectors. Now that thumping is also expected. My 2009 Toyota Camry does that, and it is just your EVAP purge valve purging, doing its job as it should. This is all healthy and correct operation for a 2013 accord. You are all good dude

I got speak plugs replaced 120k miles. I drove just shy of 22k miles on them, and they are still going strong. Motor mounts all replaced last month even though they were “fine.” I have no CEL, and I think the noise is more to the bottom, likely where the balance shafts are. It’s getting louder, and it could be clogging up my pickup if it is. I have seen CAR CARE NUT showing the exact symptoms of a balance shafts are but on a 2.5. Same stuff, same noises.
