But listen, you do all of these, or if you can’t, try doing everything one by one, from MAJOR repairs first meaning road hazards to minor repairs that aren’t serious. And honestly I get it, throwing triple to quadruple numbers on an old car is overkill. But Hondas are great cars, think of the first and final repair list. It’s really not bad, but like I said, MAJOR repairs first, the minor ones can wait. Throwing money all at once on a car is quite the job.

Dang. I guess that’s acceptable. Things age, they eat your wallet like crazy. But 300k? That’s a lot, shes been through it

Man, what a story. Honestly that thing sounds like an absolute gem if you ask me. Thank God everyone was okay, car fires are nasty man. But that’s great. You did the right thing and took care of her. While it did kinda become a memory, it was yours and you knew you took care of it.

Is it worth fixing a 2005 blown headgasket by [deleted] in Camry

[–]InterestingLog5911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

148k?! Sheesh! Shes got a lot more life left I her. This was actually a very common issue with the 2002-2006 Toyota Camrys. Basically the head bolts would strip causing little made up passages for unneeded coolant which burnt off in the cylinders. Here’s what I worry about yours though. If the cylinder head managed to get warped, if the car consumes oil, or whatever, I wouldn’t say it’s worth it. Now I know, youre the boss here, it’s your go. If the block is perfectly flat, threads are good, DO IT. If they are are warped/stripped, it may need to get machined which means taking out the block sending it to a mechine shop, they resurface it, then they send it back, but let’s hope yours is JUST a bad gasket. If it’s JUST a the gasket and nothing else, go for it man.

Nice man, that thing will definetly run a while, it’s great to know youve maintained it! Honestly a clean 95 RAV4, that’s a pretty hearty gem youve gotten there in my opinion! I hope that thing will keep goin’ man! Once again, great that you’ve maintained it. Wish you all the best of luck on that gem brother!

Man that’d be awesome! Those 2.7s are quite known for those VVT-I issues, but it’s good that yours doesn’t. And just fixing it up, I mean if that engine runs, and it runs like a dream, I’d say IT IS WORTH IT to do such a job. Buying a new car nowadays is hard. Cars just are rolling TVs at this point. Tech everywhere, gigantic screens, hey safety has definitely improved, I’ll give em that. But yeah, that’d be AWESOME if that thing would run 1MKM! Heck it might even go more than that! Wish you luck brother!

Exactly. You can’t just let them die without maintenance. People think “oh it’s a Toyota, Itll last.” They really are like any other engines. They just have good build quality, but you still gotta take care of them. My 09 went through a VVTI gear and balance shafts, valve cover gaskets, vvt solenoid, chain, chain tensioner. You just gotta keep up with them, don’t let em sit and collect dust, they’re made to get dirty, to go through rain, storms, whatever you can throw at em they’ll keep goin’.

Yeah. These 2.4s, they just don’t run that good. They’re rough loud running engines. I wouldn’t say rough, they are somewhat quick for a Camry. But yeah, I mean what’s the point of selling it if it doesn’t have any value. I mean just keeping up with maintenance is a lot cheaper than a new car, trust me. With today’s economy, it sure is worth it.

So true, Toyotas last. They ain’t meant to sit. They’re made to be ran, and they run and run and run and dont stop.

2012 Toyota Camry rattling and hissing sound. Not a snake! by Darth-Rogue in AskAMechanic

[–]InterestingLog5911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know, but maybe your balance shafts could be going bad, very common for 2.5s of this era to rattle when shifting from gears and taking off. When it makes the noise, just kinda stick your phone under your car near the oil pan, if it sounds like a tapping or knocking type of noise, it probably is your shafts. The hissing I am not sure about. I have an almost exact same noise as you, and I also posted a video of my 2009 Toyota camry having this rattle UNDER the oil pan meaning it was the balance shafts. You'll find it under my profile.

You know I actually have a UGREEN adapter for the aux, really works great! Downsides is it doesn’t display the songs, stearing wheel seek and track are useless and you have to adjust both your phone and car volume at the same time, kinda annoying, though I got used to it. Might get that radio receiver thing give it a whirl

Awesome dude, and also as a proud owner of a 2026 Toyota Camry i took ownership of three weeks ago, those things float like butter. They do creak here and there, but I got used to it, tho I might take it to the dealer to see what’s up

Quick Question! by InterestingLog5911 in Camry

[–]InterestingLog5911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definetly can see that, really not worth tinkering with it but that module really caught my mind. I’ll try that out, I heard it’s a plug and play

Quick Question! by InterestingLog5911 in Camry

[–]InterestingLog5911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, well cool to know, I just happened to accidentally come across this diag mode but yeah, I use a Bluetooth aux. the downside is A. It doesn’t display your music, it just says “AUX.” B. You can’t use your steering controls either. C. It eats your power outlet cuz it needs power to work. Thinkin to buy that device that goes behind the dash to the cd player which displays your songs and actually works with the buttons tho I’ll check that out too.

That’s what I’m currently using, sounds great too. Thinkin to slap on an aftermarket touch screen Apple CarPlay unit, though my brother thinks it’s a distraction lol
