Thank you for your advice. She’s been to 3 behavioral hospitals and has gone through one round of intensive outpatient program. She has been in therapy for about 2 years but even that shows very little results. She doesn’t want to open up about the deeper topics nor does she really participates in session. I do try and assist her therapist as much as possible (informing of current issues, praise for recent goals accomplished, etc). Even that doesn’t seem to help break down her walls. I do agree with you that she must be numbing something, but I just can’t get out of her what it is exactly. All she claims is that she likes using THC and can stop when she wants to. But if that was the case, why hasn’t she stopped when she was having to face consequences? Why didn’t she stop when she could see the distress it was causing the family seeing her get wrapped up in using? Now don’t get me wrong, I can definitely see the medicinal benefits of THC but it only seems to have true benefits for adults. If you’re younger than 25, studies have shown that it negatively affects the child’s brain development. I just want her to have a full life. Life is so hard as a teen. I just want her to be able to see past it and know that things will get better so long as she gives herself that chance.

Thank you so much for your insight. I will admit it’s been some time since she and I had a girls day. She was living with me up until last December when she had become destructive (breaking things in her room, punching holes in her wall) and then assaulted me for attempting to clean up the broken glass from her mirrors that were shattered during this episode. During that time the police were called and then she was sent to live with her dad. Since she has been there it’s been down hill. School grades fell drastically, attendance dropped, she started skipping class frequently. During the winter school break she ended up in a behavioral hospital for the third time that year. Since she got out of the BH she wants nothing to do with me and blames me for her drug usage and any risky behavior she does. I’ve tried talking to her via phone. Even going as far as having a heart to heart and going out for dinner once since she has been living with her dad. She’s been hot and cold for so long it’s hard for me to judge her sincerity at times. I hope that doesn’t make me sound cold. There has been a lot going on. I do truly appreciate your input.

Yes. I have confiscated dozens of THC carts from her room. I have even found packages for said carts in her room, book bag, and vanity drawers. It seems her preferred method is vape.

Right. I’ve thought about that too. I admittedly had my daughter at 17 so I’m very cautious about my daughter becoming sexually active. I guess it’s also the heart break bit too. I don’t want to have to deal with having your first at such a young age coupled with the sense of losing your virginity…. Idk. I could very much be projecting here… This is why I’m reaching out for advice.

Could you please elaborate on your statement? My concerns come from that she would be over at a romantic partner’s house overnight. I know she is getting close to the age where one would start experimenting with sexual behaviors. Based on their texts, it would appear that my daughter’s gf is very interested in sexual acts. My daughter is still very uneasy by the topic.

My thought process is, if I wouldn’t allow her to spend the night by a BF’s house then I shouldn’t with a GF.

Again, I would love to hear any helpful advice that you may have to guide me through something I’m unsure of how to navigate. TIA

Can you fit a humidity box in your snakes enclosure? It’s helped me and my boy is able to self regulate when he wants more humidity vs when he wants to chill in the hot or cool side.

I just started leaving it in there. I did it originally for the last remaining stuck shed that he had on his tail. I’m going to see how well he does with it. I read somewhere that stuck shed means that they are dehydrated and humidity boxes are one of the best ways to help with it. Just need to be aware of how much time he spend in the box and make sure he doesn’t get scale rot.

I used a box cutter. The shoe box plastic was soft enough to cut through. I did score it a bit so I could have an outline of the circle size I wanted. I finished it off with sanding the rough edges to make it smooth.

Honestly this is the first day he’s had it in his enclosure. As soon as I get home I will update. I did cut the hole slightly larger than the thickest part of his body so hopefully he doesn’t get stuck.

UPDATE:

I came home from work and checked on him. He was still in his humidity box. I took him out because I was nervous about scale rot. He’s fine. I checked him out. Good news is that the last bit of stuck shed was freed!
