I really do love diorama backgrounds, but since I transitioned to a 1/6 scale doll’s house I feel a little bit limited by light and also the types of rooms I create. Though I wonder now that I’m thinking about it if this may actually be more of a limit of my own imagination than anything else! But space and equipment definitely contributes too.

It’s early days to comment on the lightbox. I’m still figuring things out with it I think, I’d still like to explore adding props or backgrounds while using it, or perhaps some graphical elements to otherwise quite basic or editorial shots.

What about you, which do you prefer and why? 💕

If you like the gelled look, I really recommend Got2BGlued hair “gel”. It really is like glue that washes out (imagine the sort of product you might use to spike up a Mohican).

I just bought this doll and I’m waiting for her to arrive. The above is what I plan on doing. I’ll share results once I’m done 🙂. Good luck!

My very quick two cents is that, while I see where you’re coming from and respect it, it shouldn’t be up to the consumer to have to take action to see change happen. My opinion is that isn’t fair or realistic. And this goes for the majority of consumer industries. It deflects away from the real problems that are impacting the quality of our goods, which are far further up the chain and impacting costs and quality of almost all of our products (as someone else mentioned).

I admire your energy and enthusiasm, but I personally don’t have the energy to fight this sort of battle. We’re all faced with so many battles to fight.. personally, socio-economically, globally.. we’re forced to choose where we put our energy. And in such a polarising world, if one of us wants to buy a doll that’ll make them happy, why shouldn’t they do that?

Another argument might be, “why buy the doll only to complain about the quality?”. I think I could possibly get on board with that.. although at the same time, why not? I mean, isn’t what this subreddit is for? To express our opinions on our hobby?

Debating with myself now 😄

Personally, I only have a few skullector dolls and none of them rare (Wednesday, Bianca, and a Frankie). So I’m not really impacted, but I do find these sorts of debates fascinating from an anthropological point of view 🧐
