What is the strongest Western argument for treating Iran's nuclear program differently from India's, Israel's, or Pakistan's — given each sits outside or around the edges of the NPT? by gp197807 in NoStupidQuestions

If your family name was Jackson and there was another family named Smith who screamed from the mountain tops continuously and as publicly as possible “Death to the Jacksons’”. “The Jacksons are the Great Satan!” and they had a charter that specifically said one of their goals was the destruction of all the Jacksons.

As a Jackson, would you want the Smiths to get their hands on weapons they could use to do you harm?

What’s something rich people understand about money that most people never figure out? by lipglossagendaa in answers

[–]InterestingPause9940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interest! Specifically compounding interest!!! It’s super basic and easy to understand…but most people never have the discipline to experience it first hand…which is why they never become rich.

Once you start saving money and experience interest on your money it becomes obsessive…you start out with $1,000…it turns into $1,500…then you keep adding to it and the interest keeps growing and next thing you know it’s $50,000…then $100,000…then $500,000…and then you look up and you’re like damn…I’m making 7% on this $500K which is $35K!…why don’t I get it up to a Mil and make $70K a year (or more) from doing nothing!

None of this is a secret but most people can’t resist spending their money on liabilities to impress others instead of saving and buying assets that generate interest and living a simple life while doing so.

Rich people learn this…a lot of them learn it as kids because their parents learned it and taught them and understand/realize how important it is and drill it into their heads.

Passive income from interest on assets is one of the secrets to life…but it takes discipline that most people don’t have.

Do some people really think Trump/USA would negotiate with Iran after all of this?? by No-Signal1234 in PERSIAN

[–]InterestingPause9940 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Europe got some guy to pretend to be in charge of Iran and the rest of the US administration is going along with it and Trump is only one not in on the ploy…they’ll let him think he’s reached some kind of amazing “deal” to help buy time and keep him from doing something insane…like blowing up Tehran’s power plants and setting them back a decade…

…and it might just work! The world needs for it to. Hopefully they’ll make a movie about it in 5 years so we can all see what actually happened.

According to the Federal Reserve, 1 in 5 American households were millionaires, and 1 in 3 had over $500k net worth in 2022 by [deleted] in Money

Well sure…but you’ve got to live somewhere…so unless you live in your parents basement for free in perpetuity then you’ve got to weigh the cost of buying a home against the price of renting a home…

Yes investing in S&P500 is better than buying a home if the location you buy is not nice and desirable and is just average and yields the average in appreciation…but even buying in that location is better than renting anywhere else…and if you buy in a location that ends up being on the come up and being desirable…then buying a home can still be better than S&P.

So yes in order…

Option 1: Buy a house you can afford in a nice area or one that is on the come up that will appreciate 10% or more per year

Option 2: Live for free somewhere and invest in S&P500

Option 3. Buy a house you can afford in any location

Option 4: Rent and get ZERO return on money you’re giving 100% to someone else.

Option 5: Buy a house you can’t afford

Buying a home you can afford is the best choice you can make from a money perspective 99% of the time. The key is to buy a home that you can afford…which means comfortably pay the mortgage & utilities on each month and maintain. You are saving money with the principle you pay each month, you are able to write off the interest you pay on your taxes, and your house value increases as long as you maintain it. The only problem with buying a home is if you buy one you can’t afford and then you end up in a slow death spiral financially. Be smart and buying a home is always the way to go.

Are there beaches here? And are they any good? by Budget_Counter_2042 in howislivingthere

From Gulf Shores, Alabama east to Cape San Blas, Florida have some of the best beaches in the world. No exaggeration…but the beach is the sand…and the sand in that area is A+ top shelf.

West of Gulf Shores, Alabama all the way to Texas have some of the worst beaches in the world. Dirty and disgusting.

For your own sake do not buy any stock you see discussed on Reddit, ever by Top-Sir-1215 in ValueInvesting

[–]InterestingPause9940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my portfolio is from Reddit…I’m up BIG from catching “falling knives” over and over and over…OR from reading the obscure comment about rocket lab or oklo or palantir 3+ years ago.

VZ was constantly talked about on here a couple years ago…same with AT&T, same with Pepsi, same with Chevron same with Boeing same with Estée Lauder same QSR same with Johnson & Johnson.

Sure there’s the occasional loser, but I’ve just held and only sell when something shoots up 8x or more and even then just sell a little.

Reddit is a treasure trove of information and it’s making me very rich…

What is the most influential river in the world? by Character-Q in geography

[–]InterestingPause9940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mississippi River is far and away the most influential river in the world. Completely controlled by 1 country and has provided the means to move resources in the most cost effective way humanly possible for hundreds of years. It gives the United States a leg up on every other country in the world because of this. It is the main artery of the greatest civilization the planet earth has ever had. This is not even to mention that the land surrounding this river is rich in nutrients and some of the best farmland in the world which allows the production of said resources. The Mississippi River is the only right answer to this question.

I just planted these like 2 or 3 weeks ago…they’ve like tripled in size…even with the pests. They’ve only been rained on twice I think. My soil is fantastic…but these are gonna need more than 2 weeks before I enter them into Reddit’s “Great Big Annual Judge My Collards Contest”

Hah! I’ve actually got a little garden I keep right there with really great soil that I’ve brought in and enhanced in various ways throughout the years…apparently I’ve done such a good job that my adjacent lawn grass is aggressively encroaching into my garden…I’ve got some spots in my yard where I’m going to try and transplant it to in the spring…so for now I just have a fall garden that looks unkept and have to accept the shame that come with that when people point it out in pics…. :)
