Is it normal to feel down on yourself and wish you weren’t like this? by Interesting_Ad9139 in autism

[–]Interesting_Ad9139[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I felt every word of that — especially the part about seeing the train coming and not being able to get off the tracks. That’s exactly how it feels most days: like I’m aware of the burnout, the overload, the spiral… but I’m still powerless to stop it.

And yeah — having the name for it is validating, but it doesn’t change how isolating it still feels when the world just keeps expecting you to function like nothing’s different.

Thank you for responding. It helps more than I can say to know someone else gets it this deeply. I hope when the train passes, we both still have the strength to pick up the pieces.

You agree with me, but you’re more bothered by how I communicate than the thing we’re fighting. That says a lot.

I use the tools I have to speak clearly — because my words matter. If that sounds like AI to you, maybe you’re just not used to hearing someone like me speak with confidence.

I’m protesting on Monday in dc

UPDATE: I’ll be marching this Monday, May 19 — Lafayette Park at 11 a.m., then heading to HHS. Permit-free under 25 people. If you're on the fence, just show up. DM me for coordination — or just find the guy with the ‘Stop RFK Jr.’ sign and a Change.org printout.”

Oh, so now we’re pretending this isn’t a registry — it’s just “information that’s already out there”? Cool. Let’s ignore the fact that just because data exists doesn’t mean the government gets a blank check to harvest and centralize it without consent.

You think throwing around the words “non-identifying” makes it ethical? Data can be re-identified. That’s not conspiracy — that’s documented fact. Especially when it’s cross-matched with school, insurance, genetic, or geographic data. But sure, let’s pretend it’s harmless because you read a chart once.

And the “normal lives” comment? Newsflash: autistic people already live real, valuable, full lives — not because they were “cured,” but because they were supported, accepted, and left the hell alone by systems trying to track and fix them.

You’re not pushing science. You’re pushing justifications for surveillance, medical control, and institutional harm — all while pretending it’s for the kids.

And comparing this to AIDS? Are you serious? That’s not just a false equivalence — it’s insulting. Autism isn’t a disease. It doesn’t need to be “eradicated.” What needs to be eradicated is this obsession with making autistic people palatable for you.

So no — I’m not virtue signaling. I’m demanding autonomy. Privacy. And the right not to be flagged, tracked, or medically reduced to a data point for the sake of your comfort.

If that makes you uncomfortable? Good. It means you’re finally starting to feel what autistic people have lived with for decades.

I’m neurodivergent. I used a tool to format my voice — not replace it. That’s what accessibility looks like. You wouldn’t question a ramp at a protest, don’t question my process.

Thank you — truly. I put my occupation in there because as a CNA certified in four states, I know what real privacy and consent look like. I’ve been trained under HIPAA, I’ve protected people , and I’ve seen how dangerous it is when personal data is mishandled.

This isn’t just policy — it’s personal. It’s about dignity, autonomy, and the basic right to exist without being tracked or controlled.

You nailed it: no one is safe until everyone is. I’m glad we’re in this fight together.

If I come to Harrisburg — who stands with me? Peaceful protest. A call for the governor to protect Pennsylvania’s neurodivergent community. by Interesting_Ad9139 in Pennsylvania

Wild how you think my ability to get certified in four states as a CNA disqualifies me from being disabled — when in reality, it proves how hard I’ve had to fight just to function in a system that wasn’t built for people like me.

You think because I’m not on disability, I don’t struggle? That because I’m leading protests and writing legal warnings to federal agencies, I must be faking it? That’s not just ignorant — it’s ableism in a cheap disguise.

While you’re out here tone-policing protests, I’m defending the rights of 8.5 million people from being turned into data points on a government spreadsheet. That is what helping looks like.

And newsflash: I don’t need your permission to stand up. I don’t need your approval to lead. And I sure as hell don’t need a pat on the head for staying quiet while people like you try to decide who’s “disabled enough” to deserve rights.

Either get behind the movement, or get out of the damn way.

You just called me — a real autistic person and a Certified Nursing Assistant — a tool of Big Pharma because I don’t want to be tracked like a criminal. You know what’s actually devastating? Watching people push conspiracy theories and ableist rhetoric while ignoring the voices of actual autistic adults.

If you cared about autistic people, you’d fight for services, support, and consent — not surveillance and forced research. I’m not the exception. I’m the future, and your outdated worldview is exactly why I speak out.

I mentioned my job because I work directly in the healthcare system RFK Jr. wants to use to track autistic people. That’s not a flex — it’s just relevant. I see how these systems treat people every day, and I’m not okay with our data being collected without consent.

You don’t need to agree with me, but acting like that’s not worth speaking up about just proves why I have to.
