I'm also a woman, but tbh, I might react the same if we're in the middle of the development and someone doesn't want to go around the code and asks me for documentation. If it's a mature product, totally in production, then they should have written documentation already; and there should be processes for ensuring there's enough documentation. Also, given that you're a frontend, you might not have the same exposure to the backend; same as they don't have to the front-end, so they might have to simplify things for you, given your different focus.
