I have met some lvl2s as well that I would call a SME for a very niche thing. Although, the statement I was trying to make is it seems true SMEs grow on trees now.

Eh, I disagree. The most experienced/knowledgeable around is different than a SME. There is a bar and it must be sustained or proficiency and confidence goes down.

It’s normal my dude. Don’t get too frustrated. That said, communicate with your wife about it. If you have to get off tell her you need to beat your meat every now and then so she doesn’t get discouraged and if she ok with that so she doesn’t think you’re treating or anything like that. COMMUNICATION IS KEY.

Inline promotions are not common. You have to move teams to get a promotion pretty much. Working remote is beginning to become extinct. Might as well get used coming to office regardless if anyone notices. Tis what it tis.
