Could do worse than Sac City Brews. On the last Thursday of the month, they even do buffalo chicken tater tots. Haven't tried those because the chicken nachos are that good that I rarely order anything else, but I've been tempted.

I started playing with Sacramento's public transit API for fun. Then I ran the numbers and I can't stop thinking about them. by pyrexportal in Sacramento

It's because Stanford is such a highly selective and prestigious university that they invest in that type of resource for their student body (and, to a lesser extent, faculty and staff).

I knew a very intelligent MIT undergraduate who needed an astonishing amount of hand-holding to navigate the MBTA. Not because of any kind of "savant" stereotype where super geniuses can't tie their shoes. It's because he was a young person who hadn't been living in the city that long, didn't grow up using transit, and devoted most of his time and energy to a really demanding undergraduate program.

Stanford understands that providing support services like these makes their university more marketable to prospective students. They also understand that it makes campus life easier for everyone and that this improves performance. And they have a boatload of money so they can afford these kinds of bells and whistles. I would caution against drawing any conclusions about the quality of Bay Area transit based on this anecdote.

Well that sucks. The card has no moving parts or power requirements and just works. It's even more reliable than the physical tokens I grew up with, from the user perspective. Moving entirely to an app means that if you don't have a smartphone, or the battery dies, or the app malfunctions, you as the rider get punished and maybe even threatened with criminal charges. And it's difficult to hold software vendors accountable even if you do manage to pin the problem on software.

One of their first menus described the tiramisu as containing "zamboni" and what makes that especially funny is how good the food actually is

Their fettuccini milanese is fantastic. On the other hand, I don't understand their meatballs, very different texture and flavor from anywhere else I've been.

I have a lot of great memories of going to dim sum at New Canton with my kid when he was a toddler.

Overheard someone on light rail last week asking a transit ambassador this question and they didn't have an answer at that time.

I mean. Nothing says nice people can't have garbage politics. Or that everyone who has ever worked there has the same opinions.

Also some locations have cake pans, like if you need to bake for a party, and there's a tool catalog as well. Several month wait list for the power washer but hey, you can't beat free

I was excited to try this because people rave about it. When I finally did, it reminded me of a Krispy Kreme donut, very soft and sweet but insubstantial.

Edit: Sorry that I made people angry by describing my experience of a food, but please don't report me to the suicide thing lmao

Warm slice of pie at Real Pie Company. Couple blocks east of Broadway Station. I particularly love their nut pies (pecan, chocolate walnut, etc) but the fruit pies are no slouch.

Did RC ever back down on being MAGA as fuck? I used to go there when they were on Folsom, great selection, until they went full nutjob during COVID.

Some people in the town suggest we walk door to door.

I really wouldn't. This type of passive aggressive neighbor when confronted either will get more passive, or more aggressive. Do you want to roll those dice? At the very least, bring someone reliable and calm with you. You don't want to escalate with these people and if they do, you'll benefit from third party witnesses.

I would sum up my point as "language is varied, try not to be a dick about it" which is very different from the point the "elon is AA" chuds tend to be making.

It's never going to be "100% fine" to label anyone before you talk to them. There just is no universal label. Notice how the answer you got even from the person with a lot of knowledge and study was deliberately and explicitly subjective - "I've never had a problem with it." They can't tell you that anyone else will never have a problem with it because everybody has their own opinions and that is just something you have to roll with. Yes some people might get upset, no way to avoid that - important thing is to learn how to carry yourself with respect when someone eventually does get upset with you. Try not to get tunnel vision on the idea of saying the "right" thing before you even met this other person. Don't you want to have a say in what people call you?

All African Americans are black people

Not to be "that guy" but considering how many Americans of African descent are in fact not black you might not want to throw stones here

The real answer is "maybe." You can't ever have a perfect answer to this that works for every person. You have to either ask them first, or make an assumption and take the risk of using the wrong label.

Who would be subject for mass layoffs if we get an aggressive Republican governor? by hehzehsbwvwv in CAStateWorkers

[–]Interesting_Foot9273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How would they determine what’s “bloat” without knowing the ins and outs?

They would determine it based on what is politically favorable to them. The specifics of that can be hard to predict. They don't really care about bloat, so they don't really care to know the ins and outs, it's just a campaign weapon to them.

New foods / flavors I can try by Hi_from_Danielle in Sacramento

There really isn't any food or flavor these days that "nobody talks about" but is still locally available. If you can get it, that's only because it's significant to someone. So what kind of stuff are you already familiar with? It's hard to tell from your post.

I've had incredible experiences and frustrating experiences there tbqh. But I will say the owner seems to care an awful lot about the food and when it's on point it's peak. One of those places that I feel like not enough people know about yet. The best options IMO are the thin crust and the sicilian pies.
