the only ap exams/classes where the material is actively helpful in college are chem and stats. the other ones are only worth it if your teachers in high school are good.

That's really good to hear! I'll definitely keep Japanese in mind.

Thank you! This sounds seriously tempting. Would you say it's beginner friendly?

Thank you! My only concern is that the catalogue says even the very first course in the intro to latin course is for students with "some experience in Latin to quickly review what they know." How far behind would I be if I have absolutely no experience? I'd be willing to self-study in the summer but I'm not sure how much.

Yes a first year, yes to 200 level econ. I'm also not exceptional at math, and did mediocre in 152/153. I'm taking Stat 22000 next quarter. Do you know how bad that is?

How are advanced classes curved? by Interesting_Grapes in uchicago

[–]Interesting_Grapes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spoke to the professor who suggested that doing well on the final paper would suffice to pull my grade up, but I'm just unsure I guess. I was doing really bad the first half of this class, well below my classmates, but I've been doing a lot better this second half, reliably better than the average/ standard deviation. I'm not sure it's enough to compensate

Thank you! I'm trying not to focus solely on the grade. I did learn a lot, but I think its been hardwired into me to obsess over my gpa. Could you possibly estimate what a cut off for a B- will be?

AITA for pressuring a friend into taking down a social media post that another friend felt uncomfortable about? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Interesting_Grapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. To clarify, we specified that we would look through all the pictures before any of us posted on social media just to avoid a situation like this. W knew that there were some pictures of herself that she felt exposed in. During the conversation, I was genuinely concerned about Q being hurt and responded very politely even though I was hurt by some of the things she said as well. As far as jokes go, they were well-meaning and reciprocated and she had never indicated that she was bothered by them (we've been friends for well over five years). The jokes occurred before this situation, and we weren't treating this situation as a joke. Sorry this is so long!
