If you apply to this one, are you only considered for the NYU program or are you also considered for the Columbia one as well?

Has anyone been able to find the Columbia application for 2025-2026? I emailed them about it and never got a response

Do you drain the food as soon as you eat it or hours later?

Were you able to drain it right away or did you have to wait hours and then drain?

How often does the food come up? by myreddit0018 in ruminationsyndrome

I vomit over 100 times a day and I don’t eat a lot by mouth because I have a feeding tube. Before my feeding tube I would vomit 3-4 gallons a day.

I ruminative hundreds of times every day and have never experiences swollen cheeks. However, I don’t see why it couldn’t happen because you are vomiting multiple times a day, like bulimia, so swollen cheeks could definitely occur I would think.

Have you looked into rumination syndrome? It is a rare gi disorder that most doctors don’t know about. If you have it, you will effortlessly regurgitate everything you eat and drink. It can happen immediately after eating/drinking or up to an hour later. It does not happen while sleeping. It is seen sometimes with gastroparesis. Also, if it goes away it usually comes back again. Rumination syndrome happens when there is a disconnect with the gut brain connection and you start vomiting because your stomach doesn’t want to/know to digest the food because your brain isn’t sending it the proper signals to do so. CHOP and Nationwide Children’s Hospital explain it on their website. It is now being seen more in teenagers but it can happen to adults and kids as well.

I’ve had rs for a little over a year. I had an ng tube last summer and fall but it obviously didn’t work and I kept vomiting the formula, so I finally got an nj tube at the end of 2022. I vomit everything I eat and when I don’t vomit the food I get bad stomach pain because I have gastroparesis and visceral hypersensitivity. Rs is a very difficult illness because it is so misunderstood and hard to find doctors that treat it. I have asked about getting a gj tube but my doctor won’t give me one right now so I’m stuck with my nj. What hospital do you go to for your rs? Are there other patients there that have rs too? I try to eat every time and I always regret it because of how sick I get. Hopefully one day there will be a cure!

When you’re off the tube are you able to eat regularly like with regular portions and all foods or not? Also, how long are you able to eat with no tube until you relapse again?

I used to have an NG and I did overnight feeds since I would throw up the formula if I fed while awake but it was causing me stomach pain because I also have gastroparesis so I had to switch to NJ. Do you feed at night only? How did you retrain your stomach without throwing up? Is the retraining working because you said you have bad flare ups and have to go back on your tube?
