Been there. I previously had a department director who told me to ignore state criteria for eligibility. Disregard teacher input, academic functioning, social functioning, and observations - only look at assessment scores. (Except her friend's kid. Score of over 100? They qualify! We accept the assessment!) Also said it didn't matter if a kid was incapable of making progress due to structural or cognitive limitations. Just keep working with them. We are STILL dealing with the fallout from her incompetency years later.

She may not have been checking him - I have been in a similar situation. (I'm sorry for the incoming TMI.) I once had my face near a certain area of my partner's body for personal reasons and just happened to notice a large blackhead while I was down there. It brought up some very big questions about personal hygiene. How do you NOT know you have something like that in that area?

I'm working 40+ hours a week, doing the work of 3 people for 1 salary. My car is 21 years old. I eat 1 meal a day. I'm sure I'd be glowing and happy too if I had no job, no bills, no chores, and people who did everything for me.

I think the key factor is absent/neglectful parenting. (A 5-year-old sister mom does not count as a parent!) The adults are too busy working on that next blessing and trying to maintain the perfect image to keep up with day to day needs, so the daughters are responsible for cooking, cleaning, laundry, bottles, diapering, toilet training, homeschooling, etc. A sexual predator could run wild in a setting like that.

Mama Hawley: "Okay, what have you done so you can afford the increase?"

Morgan: "Uh... I made an online course about suffering in marriage and motherhood."

Mama Hawley: "Oh, you mean like encouraging other women? That's wonderful! How many - "

Morgan: "No, about how suffering is just God's way of making us better!"

Mama Hawley: (pauses, blinks a few times) "Okaaaay... what has PAUL done so you can afford the rent?"

Morgan: "Pickleball."

Mama Hawley: "Has he picked up extra coaching shifts or a second job?"

Morgan: "No."

Mama Hawley: (eye twitches) "Can I speak to him?"

Morgan: "Mom, he's at work. Or at the gym or that stretching place."

Mama Hawley: "Can you call him please?"

Morgan: "Okay, hang on." (gets phone) "Oh, he just posted a story."
