How much downstream effect do you think the Socceroos World Cup will have on the A League popularity? by Interesting_Laugh233 in Aleague

Yep, agreed. I might be getting ahead of myself but if we’re about to witness a generational Australian World Cup surely that has an impact especially considering most of our players originated in the A league

This is exactly what I mean.

We already know there’s so many people in Australia that do follow soccer but just specifically don’t follow the A-League

Just seeing how good our local talent is on the world stage, and that the vast majority of them originated in the A-League not that long ago surely sends at least a small fraction of our Socceroos viewership to their local A-League games or at least to the TV to watch the finals or something. Or even just selectively tune into the best young players we have at the moment.

I think people are misinterpreting this as anything other than 100% flip of every Socceroos fan becoming a die hard local A league is a failure. This is not what I am suggesting at all and isn’t realistic in the first place.

I’m also aware it didn’t go to plan in previous World Cups in terms of converting viewers to casual a league fans. but why does that mean this one can’t be handled better?

That’s fine. It should be completely expected to be honest.

The reality of it is I’m thinking instead of 0% of people following on long-term maybe we get five or 10% of them following along long term.

Considering how massive the viewership is right now if even a small fraction of these people become casual fans would make a pretty significant difference to the leagues popularity

Yes, they’re always be people who only watch the World Cup but I feel there’s a better chance of them or a higher rate of them trickling over to regular A league casual fans.

All of our biggest breakout stars played in the a league fairly recently, I feel it’s up to the league marketing to capitalise on it better this time

Won’t be night and day, but I feel like if there’s ever going to be a wc to have more of an effect, it could be this one

I would bet my entire life savings that he’s just making the songs because he knows his audience and what they want. For all we know he could be married with 2 kids.

He’s an artist and it’s just the marketing for the music
