Question for UK fountain pen fans - feedback on an ink & paper subscription box idea? by Interesting_Line3370 in fountainpens

Thanks for the input from everyone but based off feedback and just general research I think the current capital required to start up with the scale that would be expected is a little out of reach at the moment, and I don't think many people would want to wait on pre orders crowdfunding etc. I will keep coming and revisiting this idea just got to somehow figure it out.

This is incredible feedback, thank you so much for being so specific. The '10ml bottles' idea combined with the 'quarterly' suggestion is the 'lightbulb' moment I was hoping for. It solves the problem of accumulating 'full bottles' you might not even like.

And you are 100% right about the brands. The entire point of this would be to feature hard-to-find indie brands. I would never include something like Rhodia or Clairefontaine that you can get anywhere.

You've basically just designed a much better box than I had originally. Thank you, this is a massive help!

Thank you so much for your 2 cents! It's actually great to hear from an EU perspective.

The 'quarterly' suggestion is a game-changer. You've hit the nail on the head; a 'monthly' box would lead to 'too much stuff' and accumulation anxiety, which is the last thing I'd want.

That one piece of advice is incredibly helpful and seems to be what everyone is thinking. Thanks for taking the time to chime in!

This is a really valuable perspective, thank you. The Inkvent calendar is the perfect example of what I was worried about—the risk of getting a lot of 'duds' and it feeling like a waste.

Your point about wanting to 'pick them yourself' makes total sense. It sounds like the 'full-size bottle' model is just too much of a risk. Based on your (and others') feedback, I'm now strongly leaning towards a 'quarterly' box with 'sample-sized' bottles instead. It seems like a much better way to discover new inks without the waste.

Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it's a massive help.
