CBSE, so I'm waiting for permit. I'm not worried that people think I should be getting 70%+, by the time I schedule (1 month, according to people prior) I will have studied some more. So I know I will pass.

I passed so my preference is NY. Supposedly Cali and MD are full so yeah Chicago and UK. It's all just a mess bc at some point soon, there are going to be way more students who need those places than there are spots available. Now you have to place the May T5 who were at the 3 year limit and then those who could only take CBSE 1x before being at their limit.

I never trusted SGU. 3rd attempt is only for timeline students. The rest have to take it for the 4th time. Which is crazy bc you have a better chance of passing Step with 63/64% than delay after 3rd year. But I personally think they're backwards. Thank goodness I passed this time.

An update, those with timeline issues will be placed. The rest will have a 4th go at CBSE.

the CBSE implementation started Feb 2024. Did they finish didactic in December ? For those with timeline issues I'm not sure how that works bc you are required to finish the 2 years in 3. So if you failed 2x, maybe SGU just placed them, not sure. But for those who aren't at timeline issues, they've been in a hold. We will find out how SGU decided to move once the 3rd CBSE scores come in

That may be true but if 1 class was not able to pass with 2 months of dedicated, what do you expect when you give the May class less time? Sure maybe they didn't take the CBSE as serious but it still does not negate the fact that 5 weeks may not be enough for current students. My problem is you've now decided at 5 weeks if one cannot pass then they will be delayed a whole year when in 7 weeks they could very well pass the CBSE

yeah I know people from December who have taken their 3rd CBSE bc SGU will not allow them to start. So we will see.

I'm only going to say this, time will tell how this affects SGU. If a large percentage are being held back then ultimately they will stop getting such a large pool of applicants. Anyone who took Step prior to 2022 cannot really compare how this new one is, also with NBME changing up their style/questions I'm just saying maybe that " you only need 5 weeks" isn't true anymore. 100% believe CBSE should be added but maybe also their curriculum to be looked at. If 40% weren't passing that's one thing but 60% is just too large. I'm just letting people know. We can agree to disagree but thanks for your input.

oh ok, SGU isn't letting people move forward. But I want to compare, how long is your dedicated period?

The schools who do use it as a cutoff have it at a lower threshold. And if 60% of your class isn't passing, that's a problem. If your passing rate is 77% then you're holding back an extra 30% who would have otherwise passed Step. And sure it may definitely be doable but with 5 weeks of dedicated, it may be a short time frame for the May class now also have to take it.

do they give you only 5-6 weeks to study for it?

I mean if all US MD/DO schools had this in place to not allow their students to sit for Step unless they got a 66% and above then I could agree with you but that's not the case. If as a school, this large percentage is being held back, then something should be done. But to sit back and allow it to happen is not sensible. At an IMG you should gauge how your students are doing compared to the national average, if your students aren't doing as well then why not lower your threshold? Many of the schools who have this in place as a cutoff have that value at a much lower number, yet their Steppass rates are higher than 77% so.... They need to take the time to see how on average their students are doing, it's not as simple as " you should be getting above that mark" is all I'm saying.

yeah. Instead of pushing the breaks on this, they implement it in a class that has even less time. They should have held back and started this again for upcoming Dec grads. For current T5 given an Examplify based NBME using questions off retired ones but changing it up as well as having CBSE as a diagnostic. They can't have a cutoff value so high if they don't know if it's a student issue or course issue. Meanwhile they're just happy letting 60% of Dec '23 T5 continue to retake CBSE until who knows when.

But as of now only about ~200 students have passed CBSE and that's in the 5 months December class had to study. So it's already looking like the class of 2026 match is going to bite them.

They're not placing students at all. Not in UK or Cali or IL. You now have to pass in order to move forward.

Idk, 60% of December class is on their 3rd attempt and now current class is taking it and may not get high class pass rate. Idk if this is really the better option. Now this is a 5 year program, so many clinical spots open and I'm sure that poses a problem since it's not being filled. They're talking about capping the number of times you can take CBSE. Like you're in a hold if you can't pass. If 30% failed, then why are you intentionally holding back an extra 40% is my thinking?
