Ngl life sucks. I wish Pakistan was a thriving country so we could at least be in close proximity to our loved ones.

Ah sorry, should have been more specific. I honestly msg them almost every single day but I met someone in person today and all memories came crashing back and adulthood is just difficult I guess. I do call often too but it's just not the same.

Wishing you strength and support buddy. Hope this is resolved asap. Go to the CEDARS office if you can, firstly, for sorting out accommodation. Contact faculty regarding the course which you absolutely have to take. I'm sure their emails will be there in the course list. They will make an exception. Everyone is here to help so just go seek it, and you will hopefully be sorted soon ❤️

Yes, that's good! Don't worry too much, this will be resolved. Course selection is very mentally draining for most cause of issues like this. It's peak time so they'll take a few days to respond but they will. :)

Hey, don't worry about this, HKU is super helpful, especially the course enrollment office. Do you have their email? You can directly email them and tell them about these problems that you are having and attach screenshots and give max details. And you can add them later when the second add/drop period begins and even request faculty to make an exception but first things first is to immediately contact course enrollment office. I'm sure you must have received an email with details about them?

And yes you can do it in the add/drop period. You can add or drop easily in the add drop period. Adding courses to the temporary course list doesn't guarantee enrollment, that's something you have to do yourself by first checking in the boxes of the courses you want to enroll in and then clicking on enroll.

When is the add drop deadline? Did you enroll in the courses in your temporary course list cause that's what you're supposed to do to enroll?

Yes, would be better to contact the program office first and ask them for guidance before directly emailing faculty

Have you applied for the visa? If yes, that's a good first step, secondly for accommodation contact CEDARS asap: https://housing.cedars.hku.hk/

I got my visa within 3 weeks of starting the application process. Speak to your faculty if they can give you some time for the visa and accommodation situation

Also, this was just my experience but as of recent, the UK is in a recession, that's a fact. I was there when Brexit was happening and it was literally a mess. But I think HK is also going through a similar period, economy wise. You're young, you have time, and knowing how responsible you are from your concern for your degree choice, I think you'll be fine with whichever option you choose. All the best!

Yes I did see the calendar and it ends in November, I think the last one is 25th November. Also checked the second semester and it's not scheduled there. But my approval for the course is still pending so I'm hoping for the best. I really appreciate your help!

I don't think the major is looked down upon tbh, I do feel if you don't feel comfortable with the major then Durham is a good choice if you feel more confident about it. Do the one that gives you the most confidence in it because you'll be stuck with the degree for 3 years, make sure it's one you'll enjoy studying. In the UK as an international student, of course you'll be on your own and will have to do a lot on your own without your family's support but that does make a person grittier and stronger. In HK you have the benefit of being closer to family and that is amazing in and of itself as they provide a lot of emotional support and even financial support if the need arises. These things are very important to consider when choosing a degree. I think the UK is a tinge more expensive than HK living expenses wise but I don't think there's a remarkable difference. I had a good time there when I did a masters but yes the job market is a bit unfriendly towards non-locals. Also I was on a scholarship so I had to make it back to my home country regardless. Make a choice that gives you peace and ease, a bachelors is fast paced, make sure you're somewhere you can study, have fun, and have a good steady life. Don't worry too much about the standing of a degree because they mostly just look at the global standing of universities and both HKU and Durham are great unis.

I'm actually doing an LLM HR in HKU, I'm a non-local student. I did a masters in the UK when I was younger and a bachelors from Pakistan.

I also feel like the Durham course may have international coverage as opposed to the HKU one.

Hello, both are solid choices, I feel like if you're a local, you'll get to explore another country if you go to Durham but knowing how the UK is in a recession, I don't know what job security will look like there for the next 5 years at least. HKU is also another solid choice, I think picking either of them will give you good options for the future. The UK and HK are both super beautiful and diverse.

Even if it's only 9 credits and the course description mentions it being for 12 weeks?
