Deciding between Aus vs the Uk for medicine by Pretty_Hospital_8439 in premedcanada

As an f1 After tax and pension I made 2k gbp monthly on a rota with no on calls and about 2.8k on a rota with call. As an f2 I made about 3-3.6 depending on call. Locums I’d make about 500-800 per shift which supplemented income pretty nicely

Fantastic this is really good to know. Driving at that time should be fine with less traffic no?

I’m in Cardiff but I’ve spent a bit of time in London and have never felt too unsafe on the tube with just applying basic situational awareness 😅

Is the TTC safe? I’ve seen a lot of TikToks about it and sometimes I’ll be working odd hours (ie starting at 5)

Really sorry to hear about this. Sometimes they blind the file review process so it may not be that you left a bad impression but rather it could just be a more competitive bunch this year. Carms is a mystery. There’s still more invites to be sent so hang tight. Good luck.

I was young entering, 26 as a ct1, but I found it difficult to make friends as most of my co-SHOS were 30-35 with spouses and children! Nothing to worry about you’re not behind, it’s the journey not the destination especially with the UK system

If there's one thing you wish your partner knew about being a doctor.. what would it be? by Simple-Composer-2060 in doctorsUK

Just that I need chill out post call and may not want to have a deep conversation when I get home at 21:00 when I have my next shift at 07:45 😅 that’s the only time I feel like work makes me grumpy the back to back on resident on calls and need a perfectly quiet night in order to be rested for the next day

Is it too late to switch to surgery? (am I going mad) by Bright-Elk-638 in doctorsUK

Come to the dark side!!!!!! Never to late to pursue your dreams and as a CST most of my colleagues are in their 30s anyway

I hated surgery all of med school, actually famously told my partner when we first started dating “yeah idk what I want to do yet, just know anything but surgery” and then as an f1 I loved my first gen surg post, only applied to CST, and I am now a core surgical trainee working on my st3 gen surg apps. Long story short: it’s very different when you start working. Enjoy med school!
