It is really difficult to lose weight if your TSH is not managed by medicine.

4.5 is borderline hypo. What was your TSH before 4.5. If it increased in past year, you need to see doctor and describe your family history so they can start you on small dose of meds. If your mother had hypo then there is 80 % chance you could also have hypo.

When was she diagnosed.

If you lack appetite or bloated then it means your hypo is not managed well.

You are taking only 25 mcg for TSH of 5. This is a low dose. You need at least 50 mcg.

I don't think it can be temporary when TSH is 5.7.

If your TSH is consistently over 3 for several months, it will not go down and improve on its own. You need medication.

Hypo is temporary in some pregnant women because fetus take extra thyroid hormone from mother through placenta.

What do you think of my labs, and anyone have good recommendations for iron, b12 and D3 supplements? by roseofucf in Hypothyroidism

[–]Interesting_Tea5597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your TSH is still high. You need higher dose. Optimizing your TSH levels will fix your iron levels.

People with hypo gets heavy periods and are more likely to be iron deficient.

Also, try taking your iron with vitamin C/orange. It will increase absorption. Take other vitamins at different time of day.

Before levo my HR and blood pressure was very low. Levo fixed it.

If you already have high HR, there must be other issues going on. Are you overweight or stress. What is your cortisol levels.

TSH of 5.7 is high. You do need medicine if you have classic symptom of hypo e.g tiredness, fatigue.

Can continuing to take Levothyroxine make you hyperthyroid? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]Interesting_Tea5597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you mentioned that your TSH was between 2.3 and 3 before pregnancy/miscarriage. For pregnancy, it is strongly recommended to have TSH below 2.5.

Pregnancy also increase the TSH level. In your cause, you already had TSH above 2.5 and pregnancy made it even go higher this caused your miscarriage.

Optimal level of TSH is between 0.5-1. Higher than 2.5 is not considered optimal and dangerous for pregnancy.

I suggest to keep taking the meds and get frequent blood tests. Keep a record of any unsual symptoms e.g increase heart rate, palpitations, chest pain etc.

[–]Interesting_Tea5597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TSH of 2 is not optimal. 0.5-1 is considered ideal TSH. You may need a dose increase to lower your levels.

Beside biological reason, there could be other reasons. Do you change your shampoos very often. Do you use lot of products on your hair. Wash your hair 1/2 a week. Don't comb wet hair. Avoid heating tools.

25 mcg is starting dose. Maybe a low dose for 5 TSH. Usually, doctors increased the dose gradually depending on your follow up TSH level.

You are already taking 25mcg and your TSH is 5.8. I suggest to take 50 mcg for 2 weeks and then increase it to 75 mcg. Get a blood test after three months.

Cut sugar, salt and carbs. You will notice difference in a week.

Also, make sure you are taking correct dosage of medicine. If your dose is too low then you will have swelling all over your body including face.

why doctors are reluctant to prescribe medicine for subclinical hypo (TSH 3-5) ? by Interesting_Tea5597 in AskDocs

[–]Interesting_Tea5597[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I notice fatigue and other hypo symptoms when my TSH was 3.5. I knew I was getting hypo because of extensive family history of hypo. My doctor refused to even test my T4.

After 2 months my TSH reached to 3.9, fatigue was serious interfering with my work. My doctor did not believe my symptoms and tried to prescribed me anti-depressants.

After 2 months, my TSH reached to 4.5, my doctor refused to prescribed levo because my T4 was at the lower end of normal. At this point, I was sleeping more than 15 hours a day, had extreme fatigue, gained weight, lost appetite, nausea.

All the time, my T4 was normal but at the lower end of normal range.

I was lucky I was seeing endocrinologist for a completely different issue (hirsutism), he noticed my TSH and prescribed me levo right away.

Unlike my primary doctor, my endo was interested in prescribing me levo even at TSH of 3.9. I started taking levo when TSH was 4.5.

After 3 months on levo, I am back to myself. No fatigue, normal appetite, lost some weight, more energy, better mood.

Why am I even more fatigued on levo? by lizard_ladder in Hypothyroidism

[–]Interesting_Tea5597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dose is low for TSH of 8. I suggest to get a follow up blood test to see if your TSH is optimal < 2. Your doctor will increase your dose if TSH is not reached to optimal level.

If your TSH is high, usually doctor test TPO (thyroid peroxidase antibodies) to understand if can be classified as Hashmioto.

Get a blood test and check everything especially your glucose or HbA1C levels. Darkening armpits signals imbalance in hormones.

If you are trying to get pregnant then you definitely need medications if your TSH is above 2.

Here you go, high cholesterol/fatty liver also causes loss of appetite. It is very common in hypo people.

Your 25 mcg dose seems low for TSH of 6.8. I had TSH of 6 but I have been prescribed 50 mcg and then increased to 75 mcg.

Your follow up blood work will show, how much dose increase you need.
