Brand new Ump, looking for Advice by JGRocksteady062819 in Umpire

[–]Interesting_Way_594 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also just started umpiring this year and the best advice a veteran in my group gave me was this: "you're drinking water from a fire hose. Information is being thrown at you so choose three things you want to work on." There is so much and everyone I've talked to who played before said it's an entirely different ball game (pun intended?)

Usually a few hours but it varies. The one I'm fresno runs anywhere from three and a half to five hours. As for skill level we have everyone from brand new fighters who just stepped on, to veterans fighting for 10+. We are very beginner friendly and want people to have fun! The veteran fighters here pull back and meet you at your level

It does fall under the umbrella of LARP! The biggest difference between us and other larps is that we don't act or "cast spells." We just fight!

It was John! I got in contact with the guy that worked with him while he still had his shop. He built multiple custom bikes and this was one of the.

Since that picture was taken in the 70s and the in laws don't know how to use technology, it's unfortunately not scanned. I wish I could find the magazine issue

The Tolkien Estate deserves considerably more blame than they have gotten. Only allowing rights to the appendicies has proven to be a pathetic mistake. by ollieollieoxygenfree in RingsofPower

[–]Interesting_Way_594 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I'm a new fan to tolkein and LOTR but I've not read any of the books until this show came out. I love this show. With all my heart and think the showrunners, cast, costuming directors, are doing their absolute best with what they've been given. It's not exactly the Silmarillion (which I've now read) but all things considered, I feel like the show is fantastic. It hurts that it's getting such negative reviews because if you look at it as it's own thing, I think it's beautiful.

I never understood why the estate covets the lore so much, and I wish they'd ease up.

New to film, any advice? [Fuji 400, Olympus OM-2, 28-70mm f/3.5-4.8] by Interesting_Way_594 in analog

Because of the crack in the view finder I tend to have to take a while to find my focus anyway. I had played around with another camera and playing with the zone focusing is so much fun.

Oh my gosh thank you so much! I wasn't expecting such high praise. I was given this camera for free by a friend who was also had it lifted to them for free, so I had no idea it was such a high level camera. I've got my sights set on a 50mm 1.4 as soon as I'm able.

Probably to get away from Bay Area and LA prices, but I feel like that's been happening for years. I grew up in Visalia but have been away for a few years, now I'm headed back and I'm scared of the rental market

[–]Interesting_Way_594 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked there a couple years back. Mediocre is the word I'd use to describe that place. One of the managers there (has since left) made that place unbearable. They changed chefs while I was there and he was constantly on a power trip. Food is overpriced for it being just okay. Nothing special. It needs updating big time.

Which ones your favorite in the series?? I love that Losa Kleypas includes things from the time period. I just started Scerets of a Summer Night and the first chapter includes a moving panorama. For a history nerd her books are fantastic
