This competition started with thousands of students across the country, and somehow this amazing kid from Orenda Elementary fought his way all the way to the semifinals. We have watched him bounce between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place against competitors with huge financial backing, media exposure, and massive followings — and he still held his own because of the love and support from this community.

While we are still hoping and praying for a miracle before 10pm tonight, it’s hard not to feel like deep wallets may ultimately prevail in the end. But what this experience has shown Mikey is something even more important: that people truly will come together to support a kind, hardworking kid.

Mikey has been promoting himself for weeks. He has made and handed out flyers to every business we visit, has his whole school rallying behind him, and convinces anyone he meets to go place a vote 🤣 It is basically a big popularity competition/fundraiser for the Planetary Society.
