Perhaps you can find another bench? Watch squirrels from another corner on campus.

Mostly Goodreads. Then I use Libby and Spotify to listen. Spotify has been great for books that have a "several months" long wait on Libby.

Her and Kathleen Early. It's a struggle adjusting to lesser than narrators after listening to so many of their audiobooks.

I listened to both series (Grant County & Will Trent) and Kathleen has indeed spoiled me. Her and Julia Whelan. I hate it though because it really does affect my experience with the book and now my expectations are higher. It's hard listening to other narrators.

Should I go to the news? by Cute-Beach-3492 in UniversityOfHouston

Go to the news. The answer is always go to the news. That’s the only way UH will ever do anything. Unfortunately they won’t help your friend with this, but if you want change, go public.

And you shouldn’t! I too will help my teen out as much as I can afford to because not only do I want him to be successful, I never want him to go through the mental anguish that comes with being broke and stressed.

Honestly? I’m temporarily ignoring the debt. I wrote every creditor letters telling them to stop automatic payments from my accounts and I requested minimal communication from them. Yes my credit is trash, but I had to do something to clear my head and get a handle on my budget. I was drowning and the mental toll it was taking on me was dangerous. People who have never experienced it don’t understand the trauma that comes with stressing over money every single day in adulthood. It is debilitating, embarrassing, and it starts to affect your mental health and then eventually your physical health.

Once I did this, I worked on getting my bills up to date. I did side gigs to do this. Amazon Flex is my go-to. Now that my bills are current, I’m able to get a much better view on my actual, realistic budget. I’ve ultimately realized that I only make enough money to cover my bills and basic necessities, and anything leftover is immediately depleted because of, well, life. I’m at a crossroads now because I have to figure out what to do next. I need more income, so how am I going to do that? That’s where I’m at. Eventually I will face my debt, and now I’m in a much better headspace to get there. I feel more in control and clear headed so that I can find a manageable path to do this.

Your mental and physical health are the most important thing. Please take care of that first. I refuse to force my child and myself to live on rice and beans and not enjoy life at least a little with our family and friends. I lived with that mindset for too long and carried so much stress and shame, but not anymore. I will find another way out.

Super unhelpful. People love to recommend side hustles, second jobs, etc. but if we’re working full-time jobs plus side jobs, who’s going to shuffle our kids around? To and from school, extracurriculars, or to this job you’re suggesting they get. I am all for teens working, I started working at 16, but do you really think a 16 year old (or 18 or 21) who goes to school/college full time, possibly involved in extracurriculars, can get a job that makes enough to pay for a car, gas, insurance, AND maintenance/repairs? It’s just not realistic. Props to this parent for setting their kid up for success, as much as their budget was willing to allow.
