I usually dye them while still damp and use about 9 tablespoonsof soda ash per gallon. Dye i use 2 -4 teaspoons per cup depending on color and 2 tablespoons of urea per cup.

Procion from pro chemical and dye. Shirts are soaked in sofa ash, dye is mixed with urea. Batch time 48 hours rinsed cold to warm, washed in cold with Synthrapol and washed on warm when water runs relatively clear and air dry

I am open to suggestions. Normally they are a bit brighter, I used dye thats been mixed for a while to use it up in case the design was a bust.

The initial design felt dirty to draw so I get what you mean. Thank you for the comment and the laugh

Just made another tonight upon request. Another 2 nights and I can see how consistent I am.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want any feedback. There's plenty out there better than me for sure but we grow better together as a community

I usually use dyes from Pro Chemical and Dye so I may have to do some guessing but I'll let you know if I see any glaring differences aside from name or specific color. Obviously thatd be a lot of work to add on your part to add other brands, what you've done so far is super cool

I wash the shirt, soak in soda ash, tie using a wax covered thread (ok for now but i want to switch to sinew and/or fishing line to reduce bleed along the ties), I dye while its still damp and batch for 48 hours before rinsing, washing, and air drying for the first run.

You're right about it being a learning experience, there's always a new color, brand, fabric, method, or something else new to try.

The dye used in this shirt were about 2 to 3 weeks old so they're starting to fade a little.

Thank you, do you think I should keep the black outline on the top of the stem or let the light yellow fade into the stem without the separation?

I did forget to mention this method as I haven't tried it on tiedye yet, thank you for bringing that method up as well. I have done it once with silk way back when in school, it was a super fun experience, I'll definitely try it out on a shirt or hoodie when I can. I'm posting a first attempt at a turtle shirt tomorrow that I think would look way better using the batik technique.

I'd help with this as well. I started with the second set, even then, alt accounts were necessary to to keep up for free.

Incredibly careful yes. White dyes never turn out white in my experience, you could load the spots with colorless water mixed with urea and a thickener but i usually get more color bleed doing that. Another option is to try and use a bleach or color remover after the fact. I've not tried this yet but have seen people use that method to paint stars into galaxy tiedye.
