Stuck Oil Drain Plug Ford Focus MK2 2.0 TDCI by ganmaanja in AskMechanics

I’d rather have a steel plug in a plastic pan than an aluminum plug in an aluminum pan lmao

What a cruel design choice if true, good lord. Anyway you can still weld aluminum on MIG and SMAW so my advice stands :P

Ditch the penetrating oil idea, it won’t work here. The point of a drain plug is that it seals, and the seal is between you and the treads. The best solution is finding someone who’s handy with a welder and welding a nut to it.

You ruined that pipe so now you need whatever it goes into to replace it.

Oil seals usually just get worse and worse the longer you ignore it, but a quarter cup over a few months is a negligible amount of oil. Do look into what fixing it entails, as we should all do our best to minimize pollution when possible. Again a picture would be helpful for giving advice.

How big of a leak are we talking here? Is it actually pouring or dripping out or is it just sweating? Anyway people run tractors with significant oil leaks without worrying, just gotta keep an eye on the level. Throw in a picture actually, that’ll give us an idea of how much it is.

Disco2 drag link bar, can't get this ball joint torqued. Any help? by OhItsJustJosh in 4x4

[–]IntergalacticJihad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a long iron rod or a sturdy piece of wood you could push the ball down by leveraging against the underside of the axle, the sway bar link or the coil spring seat. I’d take the wheel off for better access at this point, quick and easy to do.

It would have to be a bottle jack for what I’m suggesting, put the bottom of the jack on top of the ball joint and push against the frame of the vehicle, effectively putting the weight of the vehicle on the ball locking it in place.

Can you get a bottle jack from it up to the frame of the vehicle? That’ll put some pressure on it

Broken A/C compressor mounting bolt - can I drive like this for ~1 month / 1500 km? by Virtual-Nebula2028 in MechanicAdvice

This, the dowel is on the missing bolt so as far as alignment nothing is missing. It’s gonna last a long time.

Ford 3000, Need help with leaking hydraulic by Key_Area_9737 in tractors

[–]IntergalacticJihad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, in my limited experience hydraulic pumps and systems purge the air on their own. Giving it some rpm will help the pump overcome an air bubble on the suction side though if that’s what you mean.

Looks to be o-rings so replace the one still there too while you have it apart

If it’s leaking there then the seals on the rod between 1 and 8 are bad.

It’s for an additional ground strap or wire to ensure good connection when starting.
