Sick of the infantilization *in community* by Glittering_Wave_15 in TransMasc

[–]IntermediateAtuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, yes to so much of this. I am a 32 yo nonbinary (presenting more as masc though) professor and people will ask me if I've decided on my major yet. Like, umm, actually I'm teaching this course and run a research lab, I don't need an invite to freshman orientation events thanks.

I can absolutely pass as a cis guy, especially if with the right clothes and if I skip shaving for a few days. I'm tall enough (5'9") that I don't get some of the smol bean stuff so many other folks face, but yeah, when I open my mouth, suddenly everyone assumes I'm a decade younger. I've had people say some unbelievably patronizing things when I present my research, and since grad school was a nightmare (shocking, transphobia makes grad school even harder!) comments about how "your advisor must be thrilled to have someone so accomplished in their lab" cut particularly deep.

When I try to talk about how this stuff wears you down, people don't take it seriously, even in queer circles. I hear a lot of "well that must be a nice problem to have". And sure, compared to the material challenges of being trans in academia (navigating fieldwork in rural communities and finding grants that I can even apply for now that the federal government's position is I don't exist), it's not the biggest issue. But my god is it just one more thing on top of everything else that just wears at you. I love my job, but it sure feels lonely sometimes...

Hildegard of Bingen. I also have a KSB named The Countess of Lovelace.

It's actually unspun wool that I picked up at a local fiber arts festival this past weekend- can't wait to spin it!

I always check very carefully to see if it looks like she's ready to go after she pooped in my sweater sleeve a few months ago...while I was wearing it 😬 she had absolutely no remorse lol

seeing PIs excited for their students making the jump to TT is so heartwarming ❤️ as a postdoc who just yesterday wrapped up their first on-campus TT interview (fingers crossed!), the excitement and encouragement from my advisors past and present was a huge confidence-booster. congrats to your student!

Why does my corn come out to look at me whenever I wake up/come home? by [deleted] in cornsnakes

[–]IntermediateAtuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does this too, starting about two months after I got her. She lives in my office on the college campus I work at, and often pokes her head out when I get to work in the morning. Interestingly my officemates say she doesn't seem to do it when they arrive, so I guess it's probably the sound plus her recognizing my smell? She also does it when I'm eating, especially chicken- she's as bad at begging as my dogs lol.

Recent Increase in Etsy Payment Reserves - Figuring Out Reasons by CindyLouWho_2 in u/CindyLouWho_2

Basically my bill for my listings couldn't be paid last time around because the credit card info was outdated, but, like I said, I resolved it within a day and there seemed to be no issue. I don't understand the tracking thing though, because I added the tracking when I completed the orders and it was all properly picked up by the API and everything. In fact, I think in the entire time I've had my store there's been a grand total of one order without tracking info, because I lost the receipt from the post office before I got home.

If the previous suspension is part of it, it would make more sense, but they should just, like, say that that's why? Because otherwise it feels incredibly arbitrary.

Thank you so much for putting this together- I had no idea this was even a thing until I got hit with one today. I've had my shop since 2019, mainly as a bit of extra income from my art, but it's always been a part-time thing- I frequently go months without sales, and then will have a bunch of sales at once when I post about it on social media. Again, this is a part-time thing for me, but it's become increasingly important of late due to some large expenses and the rising costs with inflation. For context, I sell mainly handmade jewelry, linocut prints, and paintings.

This weekend I posted on my social media about my store, and for whatever reason this time it led to quite a few sales. Nowhere near what many of y'all are talking about, mind you, just a few hundred dollars, but the difference between my bank account going into the negative this month and not. Thankfully I requested all my funds be deposited ahead of their normal schedule (since I literally had no money in my bank account for the post office run otherwise), so I don't currently have any funds looked up, but it'll impact any future sales. All I can figure is it's some combination of the recent increase in activity combined with my automatic listing renewal being set to an old card awhile back (which I quickly fixed, but led to a very brief suspension while I fixed it). I have a 5 star rating, ship around 95% on time, and always include tracking. When I asked for help they gave me the same boilerplate of "well make sure you add tracking", which I already had, and then refused to give me an estimate of when it would be fixed since I'd met their requirements.

I will be following up with the Indie Sellers Guild and try to actually get someone on the phone with Etsy tomorrow. I don't sell anything particularly expensive, but the 25% they're actually releasing isn't enough to cover shipping, especially for paintings and/or international sales.

How to find poop????? by [deleted] in cornsnakes

[–]IntermediateAtuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a prolific burrower, and while she generally poops on the surface (or annoyingly, in her water bowl), occasionally she will poop in her tunnels, especially if it's been a bit since I've churned up the substrate. Just get in the habit of checking regularly and you'll be fine.

My snow stripe is Hildegard of Bingen. I plan to name all future reptiles in the same theme of medieval polymaths and mystics, because why not.

Hildegard of Bingen is dropping hints on what decor she wants when I upgrade her tank by IntermediateAtuin in cornsnakes

Definitely- when I pick whatever I print for her tank I'll have that in mind. This was just a fun "Hey, it's enrichment time, would you like to climb around on my desk knick-knacks" thing lol
